The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting full time opportunity for an Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) in Miami, Florida. The Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) is proficient in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. This position performs appropriate clinical testing in compliance with department standards and documents in the EMR system. Core job functions include performing and documenting various clinical tests and patient information in the electronic medical record such as reason for visit, visual fields, ocular motility, pupillary evaluation, ocular surface assessment, intraocular pressure, pachymetry, visual acuity, color vision test, lensometry, manual refraction, sensorimotor exam, perimetry, and more. The role supports providers with documentation, provides patient-centric care, adheres to policies and regulations, maintains patient confidentiality, follows safety and infection control practices, attends educational courses, meets productivity goals, maintains certifications, ensures equipment calibration, participates in clinical research, organizes clinical rooms, travels to satellite centers, works evenings and weekends as needed, performs IVI prep, supports virtual care encounters, performs imaging, assists with training and onboarding, acts as a super-user for technology, serves as a lead technician, and performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), 2 years of relevant experience, strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, knowledge of ocular anatomy and function, competency in ophthalmic subspecialty workups, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and Saturday availability with higher autonomy and comprehensive skills.
