Summary
Radiologic Technologist 1 is responsible for use of radiological equipment in diagnostic examinations in a clinic, emergency room or main hospital laboratory area. A related responsibility is for assisting radiologists or other medical specialists in performing fluoroscopic procedures. Employees in this classification operate stationary and mobile x-ray equipment for diagnostic purposes, taking chest, body section, and other radiographs.
Responsibilities
Produce radiographs of the chest, abdomen, extremities, spine, and other areas using x-ray equipment in emergency room, clinic, or hospital settings.
Maintain safe and responsible imaging practices while being sensitive to age-specific patient needs.
Position patients and obtain required radiographs following fluoroscopic examinations.
Adjust equipment angles, heights, and patient positioning appropriately for each exam.
Provide radiation protection according to age-specific safety standards.
Compute technical factors for each patient to ensure proper detail, density, and contrast for quality radiographs.
Transport patients to and from holding areas or other assigned locations.
Operate portable x-ray equipment for bedside chest or other examinations.
Use immobilization devices as needed while adhering to safety standards for all age groups.
Assist radiologists or medical specialists during fluoroscopy.
Assist physicians in administering contrast materials.
Maintain safety standards throughout all procedures.
Support supervisors by demonstrating techniques to radiologic technology students.
Copy relevant clinical information from the medical record to the radiology request form.
Use appropriate HIS computer system functions to record completed or incomplete procedures.
Perform selected procedures in other radiology areas when requested.
Rotate within the department as required.
Participate in on-the-job training for specialized technical areas and attend in-service programs for new equipment or advanced techniques.
Follow infection control policies and Universal Precautions.
Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of assigned radiographic rooms, equipment, and accessories.
Perform basic patient care duties and initiate life-supporting measures when necessary.
Comply with all safety rules, departmental protocols, and hospital regulations.
Maintain understanding of growth and development principles for patients across all age groups.
Assist registration staff as needed (quick registration, welcoming patients, escorting patients to treatment areas).
Attend at least 80% of scheduled staff meetings.

Experience
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
Associate's degree in Radiology Technology is required. Any Employee who will be performing Point of Care and testing in the Operating Room, Neuro ICU, NICU, PICU, Pedi-ER, Cath Lab and/or Interventional Radiology areas, the educational degree must be verified at the time of hire. Minimum education level required to be verified is Associate's degree.
Credentials
- Valid Florida state license as a Radiology Technologist required.
- Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 MUST obtain the required ARRT Certification by 12/31/2019. Employees who have completed training at JHS may be granted a grace period of 6 months upon hire to obtain the required certification. Any new hires with external training must have the required certification at the time of hire.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity required.
