About the RoleÂ
We are seeking a motivated Senior Associate, Transmission & Interconnection to support Hut 8's interconnection and transmission planning efforts across the United States. As Hut 8 scales its energy infrastructure platform—powering next-generation data centers, AI workloads, and Bitcoin mining operations—securing reliable, cost-effective grid access is mission-critical.Â
In this role, you will support the interconnection queue process for large load and co-located generation assets, working closely with utilities and grid operators to prepare study materials, maintain power system models, and translate technical findings for internal and external stakeholders. You will partner cross-functionally with the broader Transmission & Interconnection team to help identify, track, and mitigate interconnection timelines, cost exposures, and technical requirementsÂ
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
Utility InterfaceÂ
- Prepare materials for utility and grid operator submittalsÂ
- Track study milestones and support related negotiation processesÂ
- Maintain internal records to support study oversightÂ
Power System Modeling & SimulationÂ
- Ensure model currency across regional grid operator systemsÂ
- Lead power flow studies to support load capacity screening, network upgrade cost estimation, and system reliability analysisÂ
- Direct system stability and protection-related studies as neededÂ
- Prepare and review clear, decision-ready technical reports and analysisÂ
- Translate technical findings for engineering, business, and executive audiencesÂ
- Drive coordination and alignment across internal teams and stakeholdersÂ
Dynamic Model Quality TestingÂ
- Directs external consultants to build and validate power flow and dynamic models using standard industry software. With eventual internalization, performs required dynamic model quality testing.Â
- Own dynamic model validation and benchmarking via model quality testingÂ
Process ImprovementÂ
- Drive adoption of workflow automation and modern software tools to scale study throughput as project volume growsÂ
About YouÂ
Required QualificationsÂ
- BSEE from an ABET-accredited program with a power emphasisÂ
- 5–8 years of experience in power systems, transmission planning, and interconnection gained as a consultant, ISO/utility engineer, or in an equivalent roleÂ
- Proficient with power system modeling and simulation software such as PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA, or equivalent)Â
- Practical experience with direct hands-on or oversight to consultants to validate dynamic model via comparative assessment against PSCAD or EMTP modeling and simulation. Â
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex interconnection study results and develop actionable recommendationsÂ
- Skilled in report preparation, data analytics, and cost modeling, with clear written and verbal communication and the ability to translate technical findings for engineering and business audiences alikeÂ
- Proficiency with workflow automation and application program interfaces to scale process development as study volume growsÂ
Preferred QualificationsÂ
- Experience within an ISO/RTO is strongly preferred, followed by consulting firm or utility experience, with exposure to organized markets such as PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, or the Southeast (Georgia Power, Duke, TVA)Â
- Direct exposure to large-load or HPC/data center power requirements—including in an academic context—is a strong plus given the unit's focus on speed to powerÂ
- Demonstrated experience mentoring or leading junior engineers on interconnection studiesÂ
- Experience presenting study findings and negotiation strategy directly to senior leadership or executive stakeholdersÂ
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferredÂ
