This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of aĀ talentedĀ and hardworking team of engineers, you willĀ work on designing and developing keyĀ mechanicalĀ ground systems for Blue Origin’s launch site at LC-36 (Cape Canaveral, FL). You’ll have the unique opportunity to be part of a great team building theĀ groundĀ mechanical and structural systems and GSE (Ground Support Equipment) for Blue Origin’s giant rockets, New GlennĀ and New Glenn 9x4!Ā

Responsibilities:Ā 

  • Serve as technical lead for majorĀ mechanicalĀ systems,Ā mentor junior staff,Ā drive design standards and best practices.Ā 

  • Define and driveĀ mechanicalĀ designĀ solutionsĀ forĀ largeĀ mechanicalĀ systems/mechanisms.Ā 

  • Lead,Ā perform, and reviewĀ FEA and hand-calcs forĀ complexĀ mechanicalĀ systems.Ā 

  • Manage external design and fabrication partners through complete project lifecycle, and oversee equipment fabrication, assembly, installation,Ā andĀ testing & activation.Ā

MinimumĀ QualificationsĀ (required):Ā 

  • Minimum of aĀ Bachelor’s degree inĀ MechanicalĀ Engineering,Ā or similar disciplines.Ā 

  • 10+Ā years experienceĀ with aĀ strongĀ background inĀ design/analysis/constructionĀ ofĀ large and complexĀ mechanicalĀ systems (e.g.Ā launch vehicle GSEĀ andĀ mechanisms, aerospace tooling, oilĀ &Ā gasĀ mechanical systems, etc).Ā 

  • Demonstrated experience leading mechanical designsĀ from concept through commissioning.Ā 

  • Mechanical design experience using CADĀ tools.Ā Ā 

  • MechanicalĀ analysisĀ experience usingĀ FEA tools.Ā 

  • Proficiency in ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analysis.Ā 

  • Experience in heavy duty mechanism design (e.g. locking/clamps mechanisms, linkage design, quick release systems, alignment mechanisms, restraint/catch systems, etc).Ā 

  • ExperienceĀ inĀ designing and analyzing boltedĀ and weldedĀ connections, mechanical interfaces, and load-bearing joints in precision assemblies.Ā 

  • Experience analyzing mechanical systems under dynamic loading conditions including vibration, shock, and fatigue.Ā 

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Ā Ā

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
