The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Otolaryngology has an exciting opportunity for a full time Speech Pathologist 1 to work in Miami, FL.
The Speech Pathologist 1 (H) assesses and treats individuals referred with speech, language, voice, and/or swallowing disorders and impairments. The incumbent takes part in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with physicians, other clinical providers, and family members to provide evidence-based treatment approaches.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Administers diagnostic assessments to individuals with speech, language, voice, and/or swallowing disorders and impairments.
Develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials.
Establishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating, and counseling.
Collaborates in a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, other clinical providers, and family members in the development and revision of treatment recommendations.
Maintains current knowledge of new technologies and approaches in the field.
Participates in ongoing continuing education and research opportunities within or outside the department.
Provides supervision to graduate students and clinical fellows.
Provides culturally responsive services with the understanding that growth in cultural competence is a lifelong journey.
Utilizes electronic medical record and/or other documentation tools to detail patient interactions.
Provides direct patient care interaction/encounters via approved telehealth platforms.
Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in relevant field
Active FL Speech Pathologist license
Completion of clinical fellowship and/or 1 year of relevant experience

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
Experience performing and interpreting modified barium swallow studies is required.
Experience performing and interpreting flexible endoscopic evaluations of swallowing is preferred.
Familiarity with various informal and standardized motor speech, language, and cognitive assessment tools is required.
Familiarity with rehabilitation following total laryngectomy, including tracheoesophageal voice prosthesis, use of an electrolarynx, and application of heat and moisture exchanger systems is preferred.
Familiarity with the application of tracheostomy speaking valves is preferred.
Familiarity with the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices is preferred.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Qualifications
Experience:
Prior clinical rotations and/or externships with a focus in neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders
Prior clinical rotations and/or externships in voice, swallowing, and/or head and neck cancer clinics
