Description

Job Summary

Provides direct and indirect care duties under the guidance and direction of the registered nurse (RN). Performs a variety of invasive and non invasive technical skills and specialized patient care procedures as well as other duties to support 24 hours of hospital operations.

Job Specific Duties

  • Receives patient care assignment from the registered nurse (RN) in charge.  Initiates delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing nursing activities. 
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living to include bathing, personal hygiene, nutrition and comfort measures, changing bed linens, and diapers. 
  • Performs vital signs, heights, weights, head circumference & other measurements and records the results in the Electronic Health Record according to nursing and hospital policies & procedures.
  • Renders care to patients in adherence with written protocols under the supervision of the RN and assists with patient procedures such as; venipuncture/phlebotomy, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens & phlebotomy according to health system standards, Point of Care Testing, ensuring EKG's as ordered, Bladder Scanning and other duties as assigned. 
  • Informs RN of pertinent information and/or communicates all significant changes in patient condition or behavior. 
  • Recognizes accepted priorities for care needs and takes direction for re-prioritizing from the RN. 
  • Restocks supplies such as gloves, gowns, linen, medical equipment, assists with room preparation and turnover. 
  • Identifies the needs of the patient and provides necessary supplies accordingly. 
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes/practices cost containment. 
  • Maintains patient rooms and nursing station clean at all times. 
  • Provides encouragement, support and comfort to patients and family members. 
  • Assists with transporting patients for special procedures. 
  • Performs other assigned tasks to promote efficient practice operation and contributes to the provision of quality patient care. 
  • Greets and welcomes patients, families and visitors. Communicates information regarding NCHS services and delivers excellent and timely service and support. 

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or EMT/Paramedic active licensure in the State of Florida - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Safety Care required within 6 months of hire - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High school education or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborates in a team environment.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Computer literate.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work in a collaborative environment and follow the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Nursing Leader.
  • Ability to apply principles of evidenced-based practice, analytical thinking and service excellence in practice.
