The Anesthesiology Resident TP* participates in structured programs to develop skills in the specialized area of anesthesiology and gain core competencies as prescribed.

CORE FUNCTIONS:

  • Receives a focused experience in regional anesthesia during the block rotation.

  • Evaluates patient’s therapeutic plan under the supervision of senior residents and attending staff.

  • Assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications.

  • Starts IV’s and draws arterial and venous blood gases independently.

  • Places central lines, arterial catheters, and chest tubes.

  • Facilitates attending physician’s decisions regarding invasive procedures prior to initiation.

  • Prepares and maintains patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems pre, intra, and post anesthesia.

  • Takes into consideration age-specific issues to meet the needs of various patient groups.

  • Maintains quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

  • Documents and maintains preventative maintenance and quality records.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and meetings, and in-services.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • M.D., D.O., or comparable degree in relevant field

  • Certification in relevant specialty or field

  • Minimum 2 years of experience

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
