The University of Miami/UHealth Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency is currently seeking a full time OPO In-House Coordinator. The OPO, In-House Coordinator provides relationship management, orientations, education, service communications, problem solving, identification and root cause analysis of persistent problems, as well as obtain authorization for organ, tissue, and eye donation and provide family support including follow up/aftercare. The OPO, In-House Coordinator should exemplify Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency’s core values and uphold the mission statement. The OPO, In-House Coordinator is also trained and responsible for effectively gathering clinical information and patient/family dynamics. The OPO, In-House Coordinator must adhere to policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. Core job functions include providing prompt and professional response to referrals from level 1 trauma facilities within LAORA’s Donation Service Area, obtaining all relevant information required to make a comprehensive assessment of medical suitability for donation potential under the direction of LAORA’s Medical Director, determining the legal next-of-kin and developing an appropriate approach strategy to ensure a compassionate, sensitive, decoupled approach when offering the opportunity of donation, assessing the needs of the potential donor family and providing ongoing information about their loved one’s condition, counseling families to help them understand brain death and the process of organ and tissue donation thereby facilitating the consent process, completing all paper and electronic records per LAORA’s policies and ensuring that all donation related documentation are properly completed, and being responsible for the initial clinical assessment of consented organ donors. The role requires adherence to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguarding University assets. Education required is a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
