We are seeking a Cladding Optician to join our Middlefield Optics team.

As a Cladding Optician,you will be responsible for the advanced manufacturing deposition process to create a protective of functional layer (or coating) to improve wear resistance, corrosion protection or thermal conductivity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Manufacture and clean optical components in accordance with established best practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering to develop and optimize precision optics manufacturing processes.
  • Perform manual and ultrasonic cleaning, inspection, and handling of optical components.
  • Load components onto standard, custom, or improvised fixtures and operate optics manufacturing equipment (example grinder, polisher, chemical baths, CNC etc).
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain manufacturing equipment to ensure product quality.
  • Support the creation, revision, and adherence to optical work instructions.
  • Test optical components using various metrology equipment and accurately document results.
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning and preventative maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues as needed.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures.

 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • High School Diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of hands-on production manufacturing/operations or a working knowledge of one or more: mechanics, chemical handling/epoxies electronics
  • Enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in craftmanship
  • Solid mathematical and technical aptitude
  • Ability to consistently read and interpret complex technical drawings, written specifications, and verbal instructions
  • Excellent manual dexterity, patience and persistence, and attention to detail to handle delicate optical components
  • Collaborative team player with a focus on problem-solving
  • Ability to take initiative and to be flexible/adaptable with shifting priorities
  • Organized, conscientious and quality focused
  • Computer skills for data entry, documentation, and communication
  • Capable to lift and move up to 70 lbs. and stand for extended periods of time
  • Driven to achieve with a commitment to quality and a safety-first mindset
  • Resilient, resourceful and responsive
