Possition Summery 

The Accounting Supervisor oversees the organization's financial and accounting activities, including supervising accounting staff and performing accounting and financial responsibilities as needed. This position plays a key role in driving continuous improvement within the department and across the organization. It provides analysis and leadership to ensure accounting and financial data is accurate, operational excellence and scalable solutions that support the Company's continued growth. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and guidance to the Finance and Accounting Team with regard to the accounting functions of the organization. 
  • Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
  • Oversees the production of periodic financial information and reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards. 
  • Oversees or supports the preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
  • Responsible for assisting with tax planning throughout the fiscal year.
  • Audits accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit.
  • Presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
  • Provides financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Represents leadership and helps drive company initiatives.
  • Communicates effectively with direct reports and fosters a positive team-oriented culture, building a great environment for our employees.
  • Sets the standards for a quality company image that promotes exceptional customer care, guaranteed.
  • Leads by example and provides guidance for direct reports in regard to company policies and procedures such as attendance, conduct, and dress code. 
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by CFO.
  • Follows company safety policies and procedures at all times. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises Accounting Assistant, Accounts Payable Specialist, Accounts Receivable Specialist, Accounting Clerks, Billing Specialist, and Staff Accountants. 
  • With support from Human Resources, includes hiring, promotion, demotion, discipline, and termination as needed, along with being ultimately responsible for annual performance reviews of employees.
  • Ultimate responsibility for the development, productivity, and efficiency of the Accounting Department and Practices.
  • Orients new team members, providing hands-on training, establishing expectations and standard operating procedures.
  • Provides mentoring, coaching, constructive feedback, development and training to staff.
  • Fosters a positive team-oriented work environment, resolving issues as they arise. 
  • Ensures completion and approval of timecards, including timeliness and accuracy for payroll.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed indoors.
  • Exposure to standard office conditions, including exposure to heating and air conditioning and operation of a computer.

Qualifications

Success in this role requires balancing strong technical accounting knowledge with a mindset focused on process improvement, operational efficiency, scalability, and cross-functional collaboration. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. 

Education, Certification and License:

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience is required. 
  • Proven success in a previous leadership role is required. 

Specific Requirements:

  • Must have solid working knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems technology (experience with Microsoft Dynamics/Business Central is a plus).
  • Knowledge of tax and use tax laws.
  • Strong knowledge of Accounts Payable Systems (i.e., Stampli) is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service delivery. 
  • Proficient with the use of office equipment, such as multi-line phones, photocopiers, and computers.
  • Strong math skills, including cash handling and reconciliation.
  • Able to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must be highly organized and able to prioritize workload.
  • Must have expertise with Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel.

Job Specifications

  • This is a full-time, year-round, Exempt Position. 
  • Typical work hours are Monday through Friday
