Position Summary
Responsible for the accurate and timely filing of claims to commercial, government, and contracted payers for Home Health Agency and Hospice services. Review and resolve claim edits within Epic timely and accurately, ensuring correct filing and payment of insurance claims.
Job Knowledge
- Prepares and processes insurance claims timely and accurately to government, commercial and contracted payers.
- Reviews and corrects claims in case of billing errors for distribution.
- Enters appropriate account notes in billing system to clarify action taken to reconcile claims.
- Ensures compliance with billing requirements for workers compensation and third-party liability claims.
- Proficient in researching and resolving delinquent accounts to ensure timely collections.
- Submits appropriate documentation for refunds, adjustments, and write offs for bad debt to supervisor.
- Refers patients with delinquent balances to collections agency and assist in filing paperwork with the court in the event of deceased patients with outstanding balances and open estates.
- Accurately applies and posts payments to appropriate patient accounts daily. Reconciles all payment to the daily log.
- Clearly communicate with patients, guarantors, and/or other interested parties regarding questions about their bill, concerns about their ability to pay, and/or complaints about services in a kind, courteous, and professional manner.
- Successfully completes initial and ongoing organizational and department education, training, and competency requirements.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in: Business, Finance, Health Information Management or a related field preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of two years of recent experience in reimbursement and/or insurance experience preferred.Â
- Minimum of 1 year experience in Home Health and Hospice Billing preferred.
- Experience and strong knowledge base in revenue cycle, Epic, medical and insurance terminology, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT)/Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) and billing forms preferred.
