Overview

Brookdale Community College seeks a qualified adjunct instructor to teach Color Theory within the Fine Art Department for the Fall 2026 semester. The successful candidate will engage a diverse community college student population through instruction in the principles, applications, and cultural contexts of color in traditional and digital media. This course supports students pursuing degrees in fine arts, graphic design, fashion design and merchandising, digital animation, and related creative disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Teach foundational Color Theory in accordance with departmental learning outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver lectures, demonstrations, and critiques.
  • Introduce students to foundational concepts including color relationships, harmony, contrast, perception, psychology, and composition.
  • Develop a course syllabus addendum aligned with department standards, including objectives, outcomes, and grading criteria.
  • Support an inclusive and collaborative classroom environment.
  • Hold office hours to support students outside of class.
  • Adhere to college policies, procedures, and academic standards.

Qualifications

  • Master of Fine Arts Degree (MFA), in Studio Art, Design, Visual Communications, or a closely related field.
  • Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proficiency with both traditional and digital color applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Experience teaching diverse and nontraditional student populations.
