Description

Under general direction, is responsible for developing a robust Family Support and Advocacy program for ADAPT of the Hudson Valley. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES   

The duties and responsibilities of the Coordinator of Family Support and Advocacy will include, but are not limited to the following:  

  • Coordinate Family Advocacy quarterly meetings 
  • Create quarterly newsletter for families and advocates. 
  • Facilitate weekly Self Advocacy meetings on individual rights and responsibilities. 
  • Develop relationships with Self Advocacy entities across New York State 
  • Act as agency advisor to the Advisory Council for people supported. 
  • Represent ADAPT of the Hudson Valley at local provider fairs to potential new families  
  • Train current employees on the rights of people supported.  
  • Represent agency by serving on internal and external committees. 
  • Position will include travel to various programs, provider fairs and advocacy conferences.  
  • Employees may be mandated to work beyond their scheduled shift based on operational needs. 
  • Orientation and training will be conducted at the agency Headquarters in Middletown. 
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English  
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License and must maintain it in good standing   
  • Good interpersonal skills are required in order to interact effectively with employees, coworkers and outside contacts.  
  • Must be able to maintain the strictest confidentiality.  
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.  
  • Fully conversant with agency selected word processing, spreadsheet computer software programs and E-Mail system.  
  • Excellent organizational skills  
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills  
  • Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective measures.  
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.  

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred not required 
  • At least one year of comparable work experience  

$22.00 - $26.00 per hour
