Job description:

Job Overview
Habasit America is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Health & Safety Specialist to support and enhance workplace safety initiatives at our Middletown, CT facility. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs that ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization.In addition to safety program administration, this position will serve as the primary administrator for employee safety and compliance training records. The Health & Safety Specialist will ensure employees complete all required training, maintain accurate training documentation, track certifications and expirations, and provide regular compliance reporting to management. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesHealth & Safety Program Management

  • Develop, implement, and maintain workplace health and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments throughout the facility.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and safety concerns to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and facilitate safety committee meetings and safety improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and maintain required safety documentation, permits, and records.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response procedures.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to reduce workplace hazards and enhance employee safety.
  • Support workers’ compensation and return-to-work programs as needed.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and industry best practices related to workplace health and safety.

Training Administration & Compliance

  • Administer and maintain the company's employee training management system and training records.
  • Track mandatory safety, environmental, compliance, and operational training requirements for all employees.
  • Monitor training completion status and proactively notify employees and supervisors of upcoming or overdue training requirements.
  • Schedule and coordinate required training sessions, certifications, and refresher courses.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical training records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Generate training compliance reports and provide regular updates to management.
  • Ensure employee certifications, licenses, and qualifications remain current and properly documented.
  • Support onboarding by coordinating and documenting new hire safety orientation and required training.
  • Conduct periodic audits of training records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with department managers to ensure employees remain compliant with all training requirements.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
  • Experience maintaining employee training records and compliance documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), HRIS systems, or training databases preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
