Position: Weapons Systems Specialist – Undersea Weapons
Nature of Role:
MIKEL is seeking motivated individuals with U.S. Navy undersea weapons experience to support the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, Rhode Island. This position supports the safety, engineering, testing, and lifecycle management of U.S. Navy torpedo and undersea weapon systems.
The ideal candidate has operational experience with Navy weapons systems and enjoys solving technical problems while working alongside engineers, government personnel, and former military subject matter experts. Previous experience performing system safety engineering is not required. MIKEL will provide on-the-job training in the system safety processes and documentation used by the Navy.
Responsibilities:
include but are not limited to:
- Support engineering teams responsible for U.S. Navy torpedo and undersea weapon systems.
- Apply operational fleet experience to evaluate weapon system design, testing, and safety.
- Participate in technical reviews and working groups with Navy engineers.
- Assist in identifying potential operational hazards and recommend improvements.
- Review technical documentation and provide fleet user perspective.
- Support laboratory testing, system integration, and engineering evaluations.
- Help prepare technical reports, presentations, and meeting materials.
- Work closely with government engineers, former fleet operators, and system developers.
- Receive training in Navy System Safety processes (MIL-STD-882E).
- Participate in hazard tracking and safety documentation after appropriate training.

- Ability to obtain or maintain a Secret Security Clearance
- Experience operating, maintaining, testing, or supporting U.S. Navy weapons systems
