A Data Science Geologist bridges the gap between traditional earth sciences and advanced computational analytics. This role focuses on automating geological workflows and building predictive models to enhance resource discovery and extraction.


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Predictive Modeling: Develop machine learning or geospatial models to detect geological features and predict reservoir quality.
  • Data Integration: Clean and integrate diverse datasets, including seismic, well-log, geochemical, rock-based, and petrophysical analyses.
  • Spatial Analysis: Use GIS and subsurface mapping tools to perform complex spatial reasoning and create interactive geological maps.
  • Automated Workflows: Build and maintain data pipelines to automate routine geological reporting and analysis.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Translate complex data findings into actionable insights for both technical teams and business decision-makers.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Geoscience or a related field is required. A background in petroleum engineering is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years data geoscience experience.
  • Programming: Proficiency in Python (Pandas, Scikit-learn, PyTorch) or R for statistical analysis.
  • Database Management: Expertise in SQL and industry-standard geological databases.
  • Geospatial Tools: Expertise in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or 3D modeling software like Petrel.
  • Machine Learning: Strong grasp of clustering, regression, and anomaly detection algorithms applied to subsurface data.
  • Data Visualization: Skill in using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Python libraries (Matplotlib, Seaborn) to represent spatial data.
