Job Description:

Summary

The Cement Engineer Intern develops and performs testing on fluids used in cement operations; makes recommendations to engineers based on test results; assists designing and modeling cement jobs; and attends jobs in the field to monitor execution and success.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and perform cement, water, and oilfield chemical tests in the organization’s cement laboratory
  • Learn to operate standard oilfield lab equipment (i.e. cement consistometers, water baths, rheometers, water analysis kit, etc.)
  • Learn to prepare cement mixtures and chemical solutions following standardized formulas or customer specifications
  • Learn how to design and model cement jobs, including slurry selection and optimization
  • Attend cement jobs in the field.  Perform rig up and down and monitor job execution
  • Monitor bulk plant operations and develop and understanding of proper loading techniques
  • Follow all written policies and procedures safely without deviation
  • Consistently observe safe handling of the chemicals required to perform analyses and testing
  • Participate in maintaining a safe laboratory environment by ensuring all chemicals are stored properly, equipment is kept clean and functioning properly, and perform housekeeping daily
  • Develop a business improvement project during the internship and present findings to the Management Team.
  • Maintain compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) by attending all required training sessions, safety meetings, and always utilize and understand proper application of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Active enrollment and pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or a related field
  • Availability to work full-time (40 hours per week) during the summer (late May through early August)
  • Able to physically work onsite in Midland, TX
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to interact with personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to meet deadlines while performing reports and presentations
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Detail oriented with strong time management and organizational skills
  • Can maintain professionalism when representing the organization
