Job Description:

Permian Resources is seeking a highly skilled Senior Power Systems Engineer to own the design, optimization, and execution of all power infrastructure across our upstream operations. This role is a technical cornerstone of our Facilities team and plays a critical part in our long-term electrification and emissions reduction strategy. The ideal candidate blends engineering rigor with commercial awareness—comfortable in the weeds of system design but able to see the full picture.

Key Responsibilities:

System Design & Optimization

  • Design and engineer electrical systems for operations, including distribution lines, substations, switchgear, MCCs, transformers, and backup generation.

  • Evaluate and recommend optimal solutions for grid vs. generator power on new developments.

  • Design for reliability, safety, and cost-efficiency across well pads, CTBs, SWDs, artificial lift systems, compression stations, and automation infrastructure.

  • Specify and troubleshoot VFDs, motor control centers, and motor protection schemes for high-demand equipment.

Project Execution

  • Lead power-related infrastructure projects from concept through commissioning.

  • Scope and specify equipment and power configurations for new field builds and expansions.

  • Conduct field assessments to inform routing, layout, and equipment selection based on real-world site constraints.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Drilling, Completions, Facilities, SCADA, HSE) to align on timelines and technical requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, ERCOT, NERC, API, and local electrical codes.

Utility & Vendor Interface

  • Act as the primary technical liaison with utility providers (e.g., ONCOR, Xcel, WPEC).

  • Submit, track, and manage load requests and service upgrades.

  • Track and validate utility invoices, ensuring accurate metering and alignment with REP contract terms; flag discrepancies and recover overcharges.

  • Manage or support REP contracts and power hedging strategies in collaboration with commercial stakeholders.

  • Oversee and QC work by third-party engineers, electrical contractors, and power system vendors.

Operational Support

  • Troubleshoot power reliability issues and analyze system failures.

  • Coordinate corrective actions with operations and maintenance teams.

  • Maintain and update electrical one-lines, documentation, and load studies.

  • Monitor and analyze power consumption trends to identify inefficiencies, abnormal usage, or cost-saving opportunities.

Strategic Planning

  • Support long-range electrification planning, including load forecasting and system optimization.

  • Develop and maintain load projections tied to drilling schedules, facility expansion, and long-term utility planning.

  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies (e.g., battery storage, microgrids, renewables).

  • Contribute to ESG and carbon reduction initiatives through smarter infrastructure planning.

  • Estimate and track material and contractor costs to support project ROI and capital budgeting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, ideally in upstream oil & gas or energy infrastructure.

  • Deep understanding of power systems (480V distribution, MCCs, VFDs, relays, protective devices).

  • Familiarity with NEC, IEEE, API, and applicable regulatory frameworks.

  • Proficient in developing electrical one-lines, cable/conduit sizing, and load studies.

  • Experience with modeling or design software (e.g., SKM, ETAP, AutoCAD).

  • PE license or ability to obtain preferred.

  • MBA or commercial/strategic acumen (e.g., cost optimization, hedging) a strong plus.

  • Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Why Join Us

  • Shape the future of power infrastructure in a fast-moving upstream environment.

  • High-impact role with visibility across Engineering, Ops, ESG, and Finance.

  • Culture of innovation, pragmatism, and execution.

  • Opportunity to integrate sustainability with real-world operational excellence.
