Position Overview

AST SpaceMobile is currently seeking a skilled Manufacturing IT Technician to provide technical support and maintenance for IT systems within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures smooth operation of hardware, software, and network infrastructure — including Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) — while contributing to the reliability and efficiency of IT operations. This role is hands-on and fast-paced, ideal for someone who excels in troubleshooting, customer service, and adapting quickly in a growing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to end users for workstations, servers, and mobile devices (hardware and software).
  • Assist with deployment of on-premises hardware including routers, switches, Ethernet cabling, servers, workstations, monitors, and printers.
  • Manage user accounts in on-premises Active Directory and cloud-based identity providers (Azure AD, Intune, etc).
  • Perform software installations, patches, and upgrades to maintain system security and integrity.
  • Troubleshoot issues to isolate and diagnose common hardware and software problems.
  • Create and maintain accurate systems documentation.
  • Escalate complex issues to subject matter experts when required.
  • Provide first-level support for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues impacting production systems promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Work closely with production teams, quality engineers, and IT leadership to implement technology solutions.
  • Train end-users on IT tools and ensure proper usage of MES and other systems.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and system enhancements
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in IT or related field preferred.
  • IT-related certifications (Microsoft, CompTIA, VMware) are a plus.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2+ years in desktop support, help desk, or customer support roles specifically related to manufacturing.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Windows, Android and iOS in a technical support capacity.
  • Experience with Zebra products, thermal printers, mobile computers, scanners
  • Experience supporting manufacturing systems such as MES and ERP platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware maintenance including racking servers, deploying workstations, and setting up peripheral devices.
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, firewalls, and routing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with TULIP or similar MES platforms.
  • Experience with Zebra products (thermal printers, mobile computers, etc)
  • Certifications such as Microsoft, CompTIA, VMware.
  • Experience supporting Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices.
  • Experience with Cisco Meraki network infrastructure.
  • Flexibility to provide on-call support or adjusted hours as production needs require.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and handle hardware up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and perform hands-on work for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment around machinery and production equipment.
