Gateway Rehab Center (GRC) is seeking a dedicated full-time Patient Care Technician to join our team at the REST program in Ohioville, PA. You will have the primary responsibility of monitoring patient medication self-administration and therapeutic treatments.


As a Patient Care Technician, you will be an integral part of a compassionate healthcare team dedicated to providing high-quality and personalized care to individuals. This position receives frequent supervision and instruction.


Responsibilities

  • Completes medication self-administration training
  • Monitors patient medication self-administration and therapeutic treatments
  • Ensures medication documentation is accurate and complete
  • Ensures patients are adhering to policies and procedures and safe medication practices
  • Conducts patient education on safe medication practices
  • Conducts medication cart audits
  • Facilitates discussion groups and activities.
  • Monitors patient behavior.
  • Documents observations, patient care, and patient interactions
  • Coordinates and collaborates with all departments as necessary
  • Conducts handbook orientation.  
  • Conducts searches of patient belongings, rooms and person.
  • Acts as a liaison between clinical staff, medical staff, and patients.
  • Assists patients in completion of patient assessment forms.
  • Assists with phone calls to family members/friends and referral sources.
  • Assists with crises intervention.
  • Drives patients to and from appointments, support groups, activities or other travel as assigned.
  • Documents involvement with patients in progress notes.
  • Collects urine and completes paperwork for drug screening as necessary.
  • Provides post-discharge contacts/referrals under therapist direction.
  • Completes intake paperwork as needed.
  • Monitors clients’ ADLs - including chores, behaviors, and grooming issues.
  • Attend mandatory GRC trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to monitor self-administer medication with proper competencies. Training will be provided.
  • Ability to adhere to ethical guidelines and maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to listen to patients without judgement.
  • Ability to show empathy and understanding to patients.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant/Nursing Assistant/CNA/Medication Technician or EMT experience preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Pass a PA Criminal Background Check.
  • Obtain a PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprinting clearances.
  • Pass Drug Screen.
  • 2-Step TB Test.
  • CPR/First Aid training.
  • A clean driving record which allows the ability to drive patients to and from appointments, support groups, activities or other travel as assigned. 
  • If living a life of recovery, you must attest to at least 18 months in recovery from substance use disorder.

Work Conditions

  • This position requires mandatory staffing coverage when necessary to provide a safe treatment environment for Gateway residents.
  • Required to remain awake and alert while on duty.
  • Facility treating those with substance use disorders.
  • Favorable working conditions.
  • Minimal physical demand.
  • Moderate mental demands to respond to patients' simultaneous requests.
  • Minimal/moderate risk of exposure to blood and body fluids and minimal risk of exposure to respiratory infectious agents.
