Job Summary

The Head Stocker is responsible for leading stocking operations throughout the store by ensuring merchandise is properly received, stocked, rotated, and displayed to meet company standards. This position provides direction to stock clerks, supports inventory accuracy, and helps maintain a clean, organized, and customer-ready shopping environment. The Head Stocker plays a key role in supporting store productivity, product availability, and overall operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities Stocking & Replenishment
  • Lead daily stocking and replenishment activities across assigned areas of the store.
  • Ensure shelves, displays, and promotional features are fully stocked and properly merchandised.
  • Verify products are accurately placed according to planograms and company merchandising standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and address out-of-stock conditions promptly.
  • Support timely movement of merchandise from the backroom to the sales floor.
Receiving & Inventory Control
  • Assist with unloading, receiving, and organizing merchandise deliveries.
  • Ensure proper product rotation using first-in, first-out (FIFO) practices.
  • Monitor product condition and remove damaged, expired, or unsaleable merchandise.
  • Maintain accurate inventory through proper stocking and handling procedures.
  • Communicate inventory concerns and replenishment needs to store leadership.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to stock clerks and store associates.
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor completion of responsibilities.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and productivity.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new associates.
  • Support management in achieving stocking and operational goals.
Customer Service
  • Deliver outstanding customer service while working throughout the store.
  • Assist customers in locating products and answering questions.
  • Respond professionally to customer requests and concerns.
  • Help maintain a welcoming and positive shopping environment.
Store Standards
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe sales floor and backroom areas.
  • Ensure aisles remain clear and merchandise is displayed attractively.
  • Support seasonal sets, promotional displays, and special merchandising projects.
  • Maintain pricing, signage, and product presentation standards.
  • Assist with store recovery and readiness throughout the shift.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow and promote all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Safely operate stocking equipment, pallet jacks, and carts.
  • Report safety hazards, equipment concerns, and operational issues.
  • Ensure compliance with company operational standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a safe working environment for associates and customers.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous grocery, retail, stocking, warehouse, or merchandising experience preferred.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift throughout scheduled shifts.
  • Frequently lift and carry merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to push, pull, and maneuver loaded carts, pallets, and stocking equipment.
  • Ability to work in varying store and warehouse conditions.
  • Ability to safely perform repetitive physical tasks.
