The Senior Chemist is responsible for research and technical development of strategic innovative technology to improve oligo manufacturing processes for Avecia’s clients.Â

Key Responsibilities: Â
Â
- Efficiently progress Chemist & Analytical Chemist aspects of new technology developments toward commercializationÂ
- Oversee experimental plans and ensure sound scientific methods are employed Â
- Ensure collection of reproducible and reliable dataÂ
- Actively participate in internal and external collaborationsÂ
- Maintain the safety environment and foster the culture of Nitto safetyÂ
- Report status of assigned activities to upper levelsÂ
- Develop formal project charters and schedulesÂ
- Oversee laboratory experiments in support of the department’s technology portfolioÂ
- Ensure laboratory documentation meets standard scientific record keeping practicesÂ
- Write and review scientific reports for internal record and client submissionÂ
- Participate in client meetings to report updatesÂ
- Foster cross functional collaboration with Chemists and Engineers across other departmentsÂ
- Adhere to all company and departmental environmental health and safety policies and procedureÂ
- Maintain and update the knowledge of new technology, especially for oligonucleotide manufacturingÂ
- Investigate and propose new technologies that will improve productivity, quality, and reduce Product Mass Intensity (PMI) of oligo processesÂ
- Internal and external presentations (including conference presentations)Â
- Ensure that project requirements and timelines are metÂ
- Plans and manages the deployment of T&I technical resources to meet, as effectively as possible, the objectives and priorities of the business in the areas of new technology developmentÂ
- Responsible for review reports and laboratory documentsÂ

Required Skills/Abilities:Â
Â
- In-depth understanding of oligonucleotide manufacturing and markets sufficient to critically evaluate the merits of new ideas with other expertsÂ
- Ability to stay current with new technologies and propose ideas with maximum impactÂ
- Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years related experience in engineer-related discipline, Master’s degree and 5+ years related experience in engineer-related discipline, or Ph. D. degree and 1+ years related experience in engineer-related discipline.Â
- Sound data analysis and application of statisticsÂ
- Ability to resolve complex non-routine problems requiring in-depth scientific evaluation of conceptsÂ
- Ability to design meaningful experiments which are strategic to the project outcome (especially proof of concept)Â
- Ability to carry out multiple projects operating in parallelÂ
- Ability to manage a small team
- Strong written and verbal communication to speak to both technical and business-related implications of assigned projects
- Solid phase synthesis, oligonucleotide synthesis and GMP drug manufacturing knowledge and experience are desiredÂ

The annualized salary range for this position is $103,800.00 - $127,000.00.
