Summary/Objective

The Crusher & Ore Sore Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of crushing and ore sorting equipment, including primary and secondary crushers, vertical shaft impactors (VSIs), screens, conveyors, and optical sorting systems. This role ensures production targets are met while maintaining high standards of safety, equipment care, and operational discipline. The operator also supports sampling, routine inspections, cleaning, and preventative maintenance to optimize plant performance and material quality. Operation of mobile equipment, including skid steers, is a key component of this role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate      and monitor crushers, VSI, screens, conveyor belts, and ore sorting      equipment to ensure continuous, efficient material processing.
  • Adjust      equipment settings and material feed rates to maintain desired throughput,      product size, and sorting accuracy. 
  • Operate      mobile equipment, including ski steers and loaders, for material handling,      cleanup, and feeding material into plant systems.
  • Perform      routine material handling tasks such as stockpile management, clearing      buildup, and transporting materials using skid steers.
  • Inspect      incoming material for size and quality compliance prior to processing and      sorting. 
  • Monitor      system performance using controls and software, ensuring optimal      separation efficiency and production output.
  • Conduct      routine inspections to identify safety hazards, mechanical issues, or      abnormal operating conditions. 
  • Perform      regular housekeeping duties, including shoveling, cleaning, washing down      equipment, and removing debris or buildup. 
  • Collect,      label, and document ore samples to support quality control and process      improvement. 
  • Record      production data, downtime, maintenance activities, and sorting performance      in logs and reports. 
  • Troubleshoot      equipment issues, perform preventative maintenance, and coordinate with      maintenance teams for repairs during planned and unplanned downtime.
  • Assist      with other tasks as assigned to support overall operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High      school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in mining,      aggregate, or industrial operations preferred.
  • Previous      experience operating heavy equipment and crushers, screens, or material      handling equipment in mining or aggregate production strongly preferred.
  • Basic      mechanical aptitude with ability to assist in troubleshooting and routine      maintenance.
  • Strong      focus on safety and compliance; familiarity with MSHA standards is an      asset.
  • Ability      to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Physical      ability to climb, lift up to 50 lbs., work outdoors in all weather      conditions, and wear required PPE.
  • Good      communication skills and attention to detail in monitoring equipment and      documenting work activities.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to dust or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, read and write. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel material; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The position may also involve the use of task specific safety equipment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days may vary but are typically 6:45 on, 6:45 off, Thursday through Wednesday from 6:45 AM to 6:45 PM or 6:45 PM to 6:45 AM. At the beginning of each shift (6:45) there is a safety and shift crossover, which everyone needs to attend. Overtime may be required as needed.
