Role Purpose

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the engineering function within a precision manufacturing environment, ensuring the effective design, development, and optimization of manufacturing processes and technologies. This role provides leadership across Design Engineering, Process Engineering and Applications Engineering to support operational performance, product quality, and business growth. The Engineering Manager drives continuous improvement, process stability, and innovation while ensuring compliance with quality systems and industry standards.


Scope & Responsibilities

 

Key Responsibilities:

Perform assigned duties in accordance with documented procedures and work instructions.

  • Lead and manage the Design Engineering team, including oversight of computer-aided design (CAD) file creation, adherence to design rules, and the development and fabrication of photo tooling required for photochemical etching processes.
  • Develop and build an Applications Engineering function with deep knowledge of photochemical etching technologies to support customer engagement, technical consultation, and the identification of new business opportunities.
  • Oversee Process Engineering activities, including process ownership, documentation, training, process optimization, and the implementation of process controls to ensure repeatability and operational stability.
  • Manage and monitor capital equipment and facility projects, including feasibility studies, capital justification, ROI analysis, equipment procurement, installation, qualification, and production release.
  • Facilitate and oversee technical review forums including Engineering Change Review Board (ECRB), Technical Review Board (TRB), and Material Review Board (MRB) to ensure proper technical governance and decision-making.
  • Drive process stability, productivity improvements, and operational efficiency through the implementation of new technologies, automation solutions, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
  • Identify and lead initiatives to reduce manufacturing costs and improve operational profitability through process improvements, material optimization, equipment efficiency, and workflow improvements.
  • Provide engineering leadership and technical support for safety-related improvement initiatives, ensuring manufacturing processes align with safety best practices.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Sales, Finance, and Human Resources to achieve site-level operational goals and support overall business strategy.
  • Develop and mentor engineering staff, building a high-performing technical team capable of supporting operational excellence and future growth.


Work Experience & Skills

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline required.
  • Advanced degree or professional engineering certification preferred.


Experience:

  • 8+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years of leadership or management experience within engineering or technical teams.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting complex manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Experience working within regulated quality environments such as ISO 9001 and/or AS9100.
  • Experience managing capital projects, process improvements, and manufacturing automation initiatives.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing technical discussions or applications engineering functions preferred.


Skills / Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of photochemical etching processes or precision manufacturing technologies preferred.
  • Proficiency in CAD systems and technical design documentation.
  • Strong understanding of process engineering, statistical process control, and process optimization techniques.
  • Knowledge of quality systems, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with capital planning, ROI analysis, and project management.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and automation technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to cross-functional teams and customers.
