Miami Township is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated professional to join our Fire & EMS Department as a Fire Safety Inspector. This position plays an important role in protecting the community by conducting fire and life safety inspections, reviewing plans, investigating fire causes, and helping ensure compliance with applicable fire, building, zoning, health, and safety codes.
Key Responsibilities
The Fire Safety Inspector is responsible for:
- Conducting fire and life safety inspections of new and existing occupancies throughout Miami Township to ensure compliance with the Ohio Revised Code (ORC), Ohio Fire Code (OFC), Ohio Basic Building Code (OBBC), and other applicable laws and standards.
- Identifying fire and life safety hazards and working with property owners, businesses, and other responsible parties to achieve code compliance.
- Issuing notices of violation and citations when necessary and conducting follow-up inspections to verify that required corrections have been completed in accordance with Sections 3737.41 and 3737.42 of the Ohio Revised Code.
- Reviewing building plans for compliance with applicable fire and building codes, laws, and standards.
- Reviewing evacuation plans and emergency procedures for fires, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
- Supervising licensed pyrotechnic displays to ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements.
- Conducting required home inspections in accordance with Section 5103.03 of the Ohio Revised Code.
- Conducting inspections involving applicable zoning, health, and safety codes and regulations.
- Conducting fire cause and origin investigations in accordance with current NFPA standards.
- Maintaining accurate inspection, enforcement, and investigative records.

The successful candidate will possess considerable knowledge of Ohio fire codes, basic building codes, and related fire and life safety standards, along with the ability to interpret and apply applicable laws and regulations in a professional and consistent manner.
