The Grinder / Paint Preparation Operator is responsible for grinding, sanding, and finishing metal components, including cabinets, doors, and drawer fronts, to prepare surfaces for painting or powder coating. This position ensures all products meet quality standards by removing weld splatter, sharp edges, imperfections, and surface defects while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

  • Grind, sand, and smooth metal surfaces using hand grinders, sanders, and other finishing equipment.
  • Remove weld splatter, burrs, sharp edges, and surface imperfections from fabricated metal products.
  • Prepare cabinets, doors, drawer fronts, and other metal components for painting or powder coating.
  • Inspect parts to ensure surfaces meet quality standards prior to painting.
  • Identify and report defects, damage, or nonconforming materials to supervision.
  • Handle and move materials safely throughout the production area.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations and equipment.
  • Follow established production schedules and meet daily productivity goals.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with other production-related duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience in metal fabrication, grinding, sanding, painting preparation, or manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic work instructions and production documents.
  • Basic understanding of measuring tools and quality standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of grinding and sanding techniques for metal products.
  • Ability to safely operate power tools and finishing equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to identify surface defects and ensure proper paint preparation.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
