Job Description
The Team Manager will be responsible for leading our 3rd shift (11PM-7AM) manufacturing team, involving continuous coordination of production-related activities, workforce planning, labor relations and effective communication in order to meet production objectives and customer expectations with the highest standard of quality, efficiency, safety, and housekeeping. The Team Manager also acts as a mentor and coach for Shift Leader(s) and Assistant Shift Leader(s).Â
OPERATIONS / PRODUCTIVITY INITIATIVES:Â
• Directly supervise production employees. Monitor work, alter schedules to meet unforeseen conditions,Â
control load factors and flow of work to ensure maximum use of available capacity and effective use ofÂ
labor, tools and equipment.Â
• Improve production capabilities through effective performance management and planning/utilization ofÂ
human and capital resources.Â
• Collaborate with other functional areas to resolve problems and develop improved manufacturingÂ
processes. Make efforts to reduce manufacturing waste and process complexity.Â
• Analyze and draw information for daily operational needs and improvement for the team. ProvideÂ
prompt problem solving for key issues.Â
• Responsible for key operational measures within business unit (service, quality, productivity, cost,Â
safety).Â
Drive improvement strategies in all key metric areas; manage production flow, staffing schedule andÂ
resources to budget and plan.Â
• Lead 5S activities, housekeeping, and waste reduction programsÂ
• Ensure best practices and standard operating procedures are being followed by conducting frequentÂ
business audits.Â
LEADERSHIP/DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES:Â
• Coach, mentor and develop direct reports, assuring effective teamwork and individual effectiveness within the organizationÂ
• Support performance management activities - including performance evaluation, objective setting, andÂ
developmental planning for hourly manufacturing employeesÂ
• Perform general management duties, exercising usual authority concerning staff, performanceÂ
appraisals, promotions and terminations. Responsible for training and development of subordinate staff,Â
estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuringÂ
consistent application of organizational policies. Maintain all timekeeping, overtime and vacation recordsÂ
and schedules.Â
• Conduct effective training of new employees and continued cross-training and development of existingÂ
employeesÂ
• Act as a team role model and change-agent. Positively lead and influence team members to partnerÂ
together to achieve individual and business goals.Â
• Model and promote the Corporation's Code of Business Ethics and Values.Â
SAFETY/TRAINING INITIATIVES:Â
• Support and promote safety initiatives along with active participation in near misses and accidentÂ
investigations. Provide training, periodic reviews and support to safety team as needed.Â
• Lead the efforts to create a safety conscious environment; be actively involved in safety initiatives.Â
• Lead monthly emergency drills and safety huddles.Â
• Maintain operator training materials and schedules.Â
• Support ISO 9001 & 14001 initiatives.Â
Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.Â
• 6+ years of manufacturing industry operations experience, preferably within a chemical plant working with hazardous materials and reactive chemistry.
• Prior experience with direct management/supervision of employees. Ability to manage, coach and develop a diverse team of individuals performing a variety of tasks.Â
• Ability to think ahead, anticipate problems, make decisions and take appropriate action.Â
• Skilled in analyzing and drawing information for daily operational needs, problem solving, andÂ
improvement for the team.Â
• Demonstrated hands-on process and productivity improvements.Â
• Experience with lean manufacturing programs, tools and processes: including Kaizen events, 5S,Â
Standard work and Waste Reduction.Â
• Experience with ISO 9000 and 14001 preferred.Â
