MAJOR FUNCTION:

The EMS Lieutenant assists with day-to-day oversight of the BLS EMS operations in accordance with all laws, regulations, or Inspira policies and procedures. This individual will help on a day-to-day basis with call outs and filling scheduling openings for our 911 BLS contracts. The EMS Lieutenant will be responsible for upholding all the duties listed under the job description. The EMS Lieutenant will attend all mandatory meetings, complete all required network certifications and tasks within the allotted time. Will work collaboratively with the other leaders to grow and strengthen the department within the communities we serve. Demonstrates strong leadership and educational abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in the field of EMS.
  • Prior supervisory experience and/or field training (preceptor) experience preferred.  

 

Certification/ Licensure:

  • Current NJ EMT Certification or higher 
  • AHA CPR (BLS) Certification required.
  • Valid driver’s license in NJ in accordance with Inspira Health’s Fleet Safety ADM.291*IHN*.
  • Incident Command levels ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 300 and 700 must be completed in one year from date of appointment.

 

Position Responsibilities

•       Interacts with all EMS personnel, hospital staff and department management and communicates directly with the public, other agencies and contracted municipalities.

•       Maintains responsibility for daily operations oversight.

•       Assures that Department and Hospital Policies pertaining to operations are being followed by EMS staff.

•       Monitors the performance of field staff working during their respective shifts.

•       Investigates inquiries related to daily operational issues and elevates these issues to management as needed. 

•       Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws related to all operations.

•       Interfaces with the Captains and communications throughout the shift to ensure smooth and proper system operation.

•       Assists scheduling to ensure that field units are staffed with appropriate number of experienced personnel at all times.

•       Assists with covering short notice openings in the BLS schedule as needed.

•       Works to make sure shifts are paged out appropriately when needed.

•        Respond to assist BLS crews on certain 911 dispatches as defined by Management

•       Respond to requests for Supervisor assistance by crews, police, dispatch, etc. as needed

•       Respond to accidents and/or incidents involving Inspira crews.

•       Consistently maintains a positive, professional image of the hospital and department at all times.

•       Consistently presents full courtesy to hospital staff, external customers, and the public throughout contact.

•       Consistently encourages a team effort in the provision of services with allied agencies and personnel.

•       Consistently presents a clean, neat appearance and reports to assigned shift wearing department issued uniform.
