Position Summary

We are seeking Compositors to join our pioneering team creating animated shorts and specials using experimental GenAI-native production pipelines. This role will bring together generative outputs, CG renders, 2D elements, and live‑action or capture-based sources into polished, cohesive shots, while working in a fast-paced, sprint-based environment. This role will help support show-specific workflow and technical needs as we aim to develop feature-quality content in a creator-led environment. 

Working in Nuke (and adjacent tools), this role will be responsible for creating high‑quality, stylized composites that support filmmakers’ storytelling and visual aesthetics, as well as supporting  show-specific workflow and technical needs as we aim to develop feature-quality content in a creator-led environment. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Create final composites by integrating GenAI outputs, CG renders, 2D elements, and other sources into visually cohesive, story-driven shots.

  • Collaborate closely with Filmmakers, CG Artists, and other Compositors to establish and maintain the visual look and style of each project.

  • Apply a strong understanding of light, shadow, color, shape and composition to solve design and effects challenges, particularly in stylized animation imagery.

  • Work within traditional, GenAI, and hybrid workflows, compositing elements created via generative tools alongside assets from traditional DCCs (e.g., Photoshop, Maya, Houdini, Harmony, Blender, Unreal).

  • Receive and incorporate feedback quickly and thoughtfully, maintaining consistency with creative direction, production guidelines, and sprint timelines.

  • Ensure shots are delivered to the highest standard and on schedule through effective teamwork and problem-solving skills

  • Be adept at troubleshooting complex compositing scripts and escalating issues as needed

  • Utilize core compositing skills, including but not limited to, keying, tracking, color correction, relighting, depth of field, retiming, warping, and photographic optical effects.

  • Contribute to look development and experimentation, helping to push new approaches to blending generative imagery with traditional renders and footage.

  • Document and share techniques, node setups, and workflows, helping the team refine best practices for GenAI/traditional hybrid compositing.

  • Build workflows, templates, and scripts as needed.

  • Help foster a collaborative, inclusive, and exploratory team environment.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of compositing experience in animation, VFX, games, or digital media (feature, episodic, or high-end short‑form); experience with stylized or non‑photoreal work is a plus.

  • Intermediate to advanced Nuke skills and strong knowledge of compositing workflows.

  • General understanding of 3D computer graphics, including modeling, lighting, rendering, and animation, and how these passes integrate in comp.

  • Familiarity or strong interest in Generative AI imagery and video, and openness to working in rapidly evolving, experimental pipelines.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality work on schedule in a sprint-based environment.

  • Ability to take direction positively, collaborate across disciplines, and communicate clearly with creative, technical, and production partners.

  • High level of independence, out-of-the-box application, and initiative, as production support structures and workflows will be evolving alongside the creative process.

  • Preferred, not required:

    • Traditional art, photography, or film background.

    • Experience with Python, BlinkScript, or similar for tool development or pipeline integration.

    • Experience with Nuke particles, deep compositing, or advanced effects.

    • Experience compositing for real-time/engine-based workflows (e.g., Unreal) or integrating AI-generated elements into traditional comps.

This job may be covered by a collective bargaining agreement.  If so, pay for the position is governed by the currently effective applicable collective bargaining agreement and thus will be no less than $68.75 - 93.27 an hour and up to any better conditions and terms negotiated and obtained as expressly provided therein.
