Ampco Pumps is a fast-growing manufacturer of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps used in the food and dairy industries, desalination, and various chemical and industrial applications. 


Under the direction of the Technical Product Manager, the Design Engineer-AAP designs products for our Applied Products line, including pumps and homogenizers, meeting or exceeding company production and quality standards, and meeting customer delivery requirements. 


Duties/Responsibilities

  • Design pump and homogenizer products, meeting engineering standards, applicable codes, customer specifications, and within cost constraints.
  • Conduct lab testing to validate product designs and support engineering decisions.
  • Support controls engineering tasks such as VFD configuration, PLC logic development, and wiring of systems.
  • Review and verify customer specifications and sales agreements.
  • Ensure conformance to 3-A, EHEDG, ATEX, CE, and other company standards for quality and manufacturability.
  • Maintain/improve designs of standard products, improving quality and productivity, while reducing costs.
  • Evaluate, size, and select mechanical components, ensuring compatibility with performance requirements, sanitary design standards, and cost targets.
  • Collaborate with purchasing on vendor selection to ensure new components conform to design requirements.
  • Partner with operations to resolve production issues and improve quality and cost performance.
  • Act as technical resource for product field support of customers, assisting in addressing and resolving questions and problems.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams to address and resolve manufacturing, design and quality concerns, and ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of ISO processes and methods.
  • Stay current on industry developments, new components, and methods, and propose ideas for new products or design improvements.
  • Follow all housekeeping procedures and comply with all quality and safety regulations.


Required Skills

  • In depth knowledge of SolidWorks
  • Strong organizational aptitude and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical co-workers and collaborate in a team environment consisting of cross functional disciplines
  • Knowledge of the design fabrication process
  • Problem solving skills for determining solutions when problems arise
  • Ability to effectively multi-task, while maintaining deadlines.


Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3-5 years related experience


Physical Requirements

  • Must be comfortable using hand tools and able to occasionally lift and/or move parts or components weighing up to 25 pounds.
