You will work hands‑on with complex mechanical and utility systems that are essential to safe, reliable operations—while collaborating closely with maintenance, engineering, EHS, and external partners to ensure our sites operate efficiently, safely, and in full regulatory compliance.

The Role & Your Impact

This is a hands‑on, operational and technical role with a strong focus on reliability, safety, and continuous improvement. You will act as a key technical resource for site utilities and ammonia refrigeration systems, ensuring high system uptime and compliance across multiple locations.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical support for site utility systems including electrical distribution, natural gas, steam, water systems, compressed air, HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, and water treatment.
  • Serving as technical lead for ammonia refrigeration systems, including compressors, evaporators, condensers, and control systems.
  • Leading and documenting Process Safety Management (PSM) and Ammonia PSM activities, including audits, PHAs, and mechanical integrity programs.
  • Developing, executing, and improving preventive and corrective maintenance programs for mechanical utility systems.
  • Leading and supporting utility‑related capital projects, energy efficiency initiatives, and sustainability improvements.
  • Coordinating contractors and service providers across West Allis (primary) and New Berlin sites.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

To succeed in this role, you bring a strong technical foundation and a safety‑first mindset:

  • Associate’s degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial engineering, or a related field (or equivalent military technical experience).  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with industrial utilities, ammonia refrigeration, or mechanical systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with HVAC, steam systems, compressed air, water distribution, and mechanical utilities.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical integrity principles, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, and service reports.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross‑functionally with internal teams and external contractors.

Additional Skills & Interests We Value

While not required, the following are considered strong advantages:

  • Level 3 Ammonia Operator certification.
  • Experience conducting PSM audits, PHAs, and mechanical integrity inspections.
  • Project management experience within utilities, facilities, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting energy efficiency or sustainability initiatives.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and ASHRAE standards.

Ways of Working / Working Conditions

  • Primarily on‑site role with approximately 70% of time at West Allis and 30% at New Berlin.
  • Multi‑site support with occasional off‑site training and travel.
  • Role may include being on‑call for emergency utility or refrigeration issues.
  • Work environment includes industrial and factory settings with exposure to noise, temperature variations, and mechanical equipment.
  • Physical requirements may include walking, climbing, and occasional lifting as part of system inspections and maintenance support.

  • Expected base salary range: USD 85,000 – 95,000, depending on experience.
