The Production Supervisor leads a frontline manufacturing team to deliver daily machining and assembly output safely, efficiently, and with high quality. This role requires strong machining knowledge, the ability to troubleshoot process issues, and the leadership capability to guide a represented (union) workforce. The Production Supervisor ensures execution to plan, drives continuous improvement, and develops talent to support long‑term site stability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and support a team of hourly operators in a represented (union) environment; apply policies consistently and maintain constructive labor–management relations.
  • Manage staffing, skills matrices, cross‑training, onboarding, and performance conversations.
  • Build engagement and accountability through clear expectations, feedback, and recognition.

Machining & Production Execution

  • Oversee daily machining and/or assembly operations to meet SQDIP (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity) targets.
  • Ensure operators follow standard work, machining procedures, and correct tooling setups.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues including dimensional variation, tool wear, feeds/speeds, cycle time barriers, and equipment performance.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance, Quality, Materials, and Engineering to resolve downtime and improve throughput.

Quality

  • Ensure compliance to work instructions, prints, and control plans.
  • Support first‑piece approvals, dimensional checks, and disposition of non‑conforming material.
  • Lead or participate in root‑cause problem solving (A3/8D) for defects and chronic process issues.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive improvements in machining efficiency, scrap reduction, changeover time, and standard work.
  • Facilitate 5S sustainment, visual management enhancements, and waste elimination.
  • Support alignment to plant CI goals and divisional initiatives.

Communication & Coordination

  • Lead daily tier meetings and ensure effective cross‑shift handoffs.
  • Provide updates on staffing, performance, risks, and countermeasures to site leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, or related field) OR equivalent relevant experience.
  • Machining background required — experience with CNC machining, tooling, setup, troubleshooting, or machining operations leadership.
  • 2–5+ years of experience supervising hourly manufacturing employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute production schedules and manage daily operations.
  • Strong problem‑solving capability (A3/8D/root‑cause).
  • SAP/MES proficiency preferred and strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a union environment (preferred).
  • CI training (Lean/6σ) or experience implementing standard work, 5S, visual management.
  • Experience in precision machining, metal cutting, or similar discrete industrial manufacturing.
