- Provide respite for family members or other primary caregiver.
- Be a caring, compassionate, and empathetic person who can support the hospice philosophy and care plan.
- Be able to provide psycho social, emotional, and spiritual support by compassionate presence in the home or facility, listening, and by other means which might be indicated and appropriate on an individual basis.
- Assist the caregiver with light housekeeping, errands, and shopping.
- Be willing to contact the bereaved survivor after the death of the patient by attending the funeral or memorial service and by personal visits, telephone calls, and written notes as appropriate.
- Provide feedback to the interdisciplinary team via report to the Volunteer Coordinator or designee regarding patient and family needs and coping.
- Keep written record of patient related activities and Eden Hospice functions, such as training's, memorials, etc.
- Support and reinforce the role and functions of the interdisciplinary team when in contact with the patient and family.
- Hospice Volunteer training with Eden Hospice or other adequate Hospice training.
- Ability TO work with people of various religious faiths and cultures.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Nonjudgmental, sensitive to the needs and feelings of others.
