Job Overview

The Sustaining Engineer is responsible for leading and managing the design, development, and implementation of electronic and embedded systems. This role involves utilizing extensive expertise and leadership skills, driving innovation, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing mentorship to junior team members, contributing to the success and advancement of complex engineering projects within Hubbell. The Sustaining Engineer may also review vendor capability to support product development.  

Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications and will be discussed during the interview process. The salary range for this role is $130,000 - $140,000 annually and offers a competitive benefits package.

A Day In The Life

Every day at Hubbell is different and you’ll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you’ll make a difference by: 

  • Participating in the development of multiple products simultaneously. Taking on a lead role for selected development projects, managing the NPD process from design definition through design capture and verification to the hand-off to production.   
  • Leading and participating in project reviews and in requirement gathering meetings with sales/marketing and systems engineering groups.   
  • Being responsible for design flow from architecture through prototype testing and production documentation. This includes circuit design, component selection and evaluation, hardware verification and validation of new products.    
  • Performing final design reviews on all circuits and board designs, including mechanical aspects, needed to be released for prototyping and for production.   
  • Guiding creation of hardware bring-up and production test procedures and of plans to test/validate new designs. Assisting with the design verification and validation to ensure that the completed design meets the requirements.   
  • Performing product sustaining activities for addressing hardware related field issues as needed. 
     

What will help you thrive in this role?

Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent degree (required) 

Proficiency with a proven track record in working with designs utilizing microprocessors, microcontrollers, digital signal processors, field-programmable gate arrays, high-speed A/D-D/A conversion, and power conversion (required) 

6-10 years of embedded hardware design experience on industrial products  

Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant tools for electrical design, analysis, and simulation (required)  

Experience with test equipment and measurement methodologies for electrical systems  

Understanding design verification/validation and regulatory compliance testing (UL, CSA, FCC).   

Experience with C/C++ and Python preferred.
