About the Role:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) working full-time dayshifts in the Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) unit plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care dayshift t hours. This position focuses on supporting nursing staff by providing direct patient care, monitoring patient conditions, and assisting with daily living activities to ensure patient comfort and safety. The PCT is responsible for performing clinical tasks such as vital signs monitoring, and specimen collection. Â By maintaining clear communication with the healthcare team and patients, the PCT helps facilitate efficient care delivery and timely response to patient needs. Ultimately, this role contributes to positive patient outcomes and a smooth operational flow within the Med Surg unit during day shifts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year PCT experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to work full-time day shifts in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional certifications such as Phlebotomy or EKG Technician credentials.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support.
- Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate accurately and promptly.
- Collect specimens for laboratory testing and perform basic  care as directed by nursing staff.
- Ensure patient safety by observing and reporting any changes in patient condition or behavior to the nursing team.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient environment in compliance with hospital policies and infection control standards.
- Support nurses with patient transport, positioning, and other clinical tasks as needed during the shift.
- Document patient care activities thoroughly and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members.
Skills:
The required skills such as patient care techniques, vital signs monitoring, and specimen collection are applied daily to ensure patients receive attentive and accurate care throughout the shift. Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating with nurses and other healthcare professionals to promptly address patient needs and changes in condition. Time management and organizational skills help the PCT prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment while maintaining compliance with safety and infection control protocols. Preferred skills like proficiency with electronic health records enhance documentation accuracy and streamline information sharing. Additionally, interpersonal skills foster compassionate patient interactions, contributing to a supportive and healing environment.
Rotating scheduled days to include holidays and weekends. 6:45 AM to 6:45 PM.
This is a FT position budgeted at 36 h/p/w/. Positions is eligible, if applicable for overtime and shift differential pay.
