Electrical Hardware Design Engineer

We are hiring an Electrical Hardware Design Engineer in Bloomington, MN to support the development of advanced high-speed electronic hardware systems used in mission-critical defense and security applications. This role requires expertise in PCB/PWB design, Siemens/Mentor Graphics Xpedition, HyperLynx signal integrity analysis, embedded processors, FPGAs, fiber optic interfaces, and high-speed circuit card development supporting complex defense hardware programs.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze system and hardware requirements for complex electrical hardware and circuit card designs.
  • Develop electrical schematics using Siemens/Mentor Graphics Xpedition.
  • Define PCB/PWB routing constraints and support layout and routing activities for high-speed designs.
  • Design high-speed, high-density circuit cards incorporating:
    • Embedded processors
    • FPGAs
    • Fiber optic interfaces
    • High-speed communication interfaces
  • Support hardware development activities throughout the full product lifecycle, including:
    • Manufacturing
    • Integration
    • Test
    • Qualification
  • Perform Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) analysis using HyperLynx and related analysis tools.
  • Troubleshoot electrical hardware issues using laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes and Ethernet network testers.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, external stakeholders, and customers to deliver hardware solutions meeting technical and program requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to apply AI-enabled tools, automation methods, and process improvements supporting engineering innovation and efficiency.

 

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with circuit card design, including advanced materials, packaging techniques, and high-speed interfaces.
  • Advanced experience using Siemens/Mentor Graphics Xpedition for schematic entry and constraint management.
  • Experience performing HyperLynx Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) analysis.
  • Experience designing high-speed and high-density circuit cards using embedded processors, FPGAs, and/or fiber optic interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes and Ethernet network testers.
  • Ability to solve complex hardware design challenges with minimal direction.
  • Experience supporting hardware integration, manufacturing, test, and qualification activities.
