This Opportunity
WSP is currently seeking an Environmental Engineer for our Minneapolis, Minnesota office to be a part of our dynamic team dedicated to meeting client objectives and overcoming challenges through expert technical guidance. You will have the opportunity to provide project assistance and guidance on multi-phase environmental work processes, including but not limited to: site investigation, remediation, developing corrective action strategies, managing aspects of brownfields redevelopment projects (i.e., vapor intrusion mitigation and environmental management plans), environmental permitting, and assisting with recommendations to avert degradation of air, water, and land resources. Responsible for ensuring projects are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
Your Impact
- Develop environmental site investigation and remediation strategies for a diverse client base (federal, municipal, commercial, industrial) and projects from various regulatory programs (Superfund, Brownfields, Voluntary Cleanup, etc.)
- Lead multi-media investigations that may include subsurface boring and trenching oversight, groundwater monitoring and injection/recovery well installations, multi-media sampling, and field mapping.
- Develop technical scopes of work, schedules, and cost estimates for site investigation and remediation activities, based on applicable regulations and client objectives.Â
- Oversee data interpretation, contaminant fate and transport analysis, conceptual site model development, and defensible technical conclusions.
- Evaluate remedial performance and direct appropriate O&M and system optimization activities.
Prepare and review a variety of technical reports: remedial action plans, feasibility studies, pilot test work plans, remedial design, contractor specifications & bid documents, remedial performance evaluation, pre-design investigation, cost estimates and regulatory submittals etc. - Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Prepare and implement site-specific Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) and Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Remain current in latest environmental engineering techniques and emerging contaminants of concern.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.Â
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.Â
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or a closely related engineering discipline.Â
- 5+ years of relevant post-education experience in remediation or environmental engineering projects.Â
- Experience with a broad range of remediation technologies, including groundwater extraction and treatment, soil vapor extraction, air sparging, in-situ injection, and phytoremediation.Â
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and methods and their application to civil/environmental project work.Â
- Experience preparing plans and specifications related to civil design and/or construction bid packages under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.Â
- Ability to prepare clear, well-organized technical reports related to investigations, permitting, engineering studies, design, and construction.Â
- Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations related to the construction, demolition, and design of facilities or structures in accordance with applicable regulations and policies.Â
- Experience developing and managing scopes of work to evaluate and remediate regulated materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint, and mold.Â
- Working knowledge of hazardous substance reduction and elimination concepts, including typical mitigation methods.Â
- Working knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record keeping requirements.Â
- Ability to perform technical computations and calculations using established engineering principles.Â
- Ability to read and interpret design plans and technical specifications and evaluate compliance with applicable regulations.Â
- Project management experience, including tracking project hours and expenses.Â
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to both engineering and non engineering audiences.Â
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment while maintaining attention to detail.Â
- Ability to work independently and provide technical guidance and leadership to junior staff, with strict adherence to QA/QC requirements.Â
- Proficiency in technical writing, office automation and communication software, engineering tools, and applied math and modeling concepts.Â
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills, including the ability to analyze data, interpret testing results, and develop effective, economical, and technically sound solutions.Â
- Willingness to travel out of state occasionally, depending on project needs.Â
- Proven commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.

Preferred QualificationsÂ
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineering License in Minnesota and Kansas or ability to obtain by reciprocity.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with Federal and State (MN and KS) regulatory programs

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $90,000 - $120,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
