Position Overview

AICDC believes strong families build strong communities. The Family Advocate plays a vital role in partnering with families to identify their strengths, overcome barriers, and achieve long-term stability. Using a family-centered, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed approach, the Family Advocate provides guidance, advocacy, education, and connections to community resources to empower families.

Working within the Families First Program, the Family Advocate supports parents and caregivers through individualized plans, life skills development, budgeting, employment readiness, educational support, and resource navigation. This position builds relationships with families, provides ongoing encouragement and accountability, and advocates for them as they work toward self-sufficiency and well-being.

Reports to: Lead Case Manager

Primary Responsibilities

  • Welcome families into the Families First Program through comprehensive intake and assessment.
  • Maintain regular contact with participating families.
  • Build trusting, culturally responsive relationships with families and maintain regular contact to monitor progress, recognize successes, address barriers, and support individual goal achievement. 
  • Partner with families to develop personalized action plans that support stability, independence, and overall wellness.
  • Advocate for families when working with schools, healthcare providers, social service agencies, and other community partners.
  • Provide crisis intervention and problem-solving support during challenging situations.
  • Coordinate transportation when appropriate.
  • Complete timely and accurate case documentation within Procentive and other required systems for services rendered.
  • Collaborate with internal staff and community partners to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Apply agency policies, procedures, and program guidelines consistently and respectfully.
  • Connect parents and caregivers with information and referrals for housing, recovery services, employment, education, healthcare, childcare, and other supportive community resources.
  • Plan, facilitate, and encourage participation in educational, cultural, and family-centered activities that promote healthy relationships, life skills, resilience, and community connection.
  • Support families to build life, budgeting skills, employment readiness, educational advancement, and other tools for long-term success and overall wellness.
  • Participate actively in meetings, case consultations, and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality while collaborating with community partners, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Identify opportunities to improve services and enhance family outcomes.
  • Support Family First Program to ensure quality services and successful program implementation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 - 5 years of educational or professional experience in human services or a related field.
  • Experience working with families experiencing housing instability, homelessness, or other life challenges.
  • Experience providing crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
  • Strong organizational skills with experience maintaining accurate documentation and reports.
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with individuals from diverse cultural, racial, economic, and gender backgrounds.
  • Ability to assess situations quickly and respond with professionalism and compassion.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record to meet agency transportation requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Procentive or another electronic health records, or case management systems.
  • Experience with county benefits or public assistance programs, and referral processes. 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform prolonged computer and desk work
  • Ability to travel locally and transport clients occasionally as required by the position
  • Ability to move throughout office, and community settings, which may include navigating stairs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds.
