Job Summary

The Machinist Intern position allows students pursuing a career in the manufacturing industry the opportunity to gain experience while completing their program.

 

Shift/Hours: 1st or 2nd Shift Monday through Friday. Hours are flexible based on school schedule. 15 to 40 hours per week.

 

Shift Differential: 2nd Shift employees are eligible for a 20% shift differential on top of base pay.

 

Compensation:  The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $21.00 to $22.00. The exact rate may be based on a combination of factors, including knowledge, experience, skills, abilities, and education.
 

Essential Functions – WHAT WE WILL TEACH YOU TO DO

 

  • Set up and operate computer numerical controls (CNC) on machining centers to fabricate parts.
  • Load parts in the machine, cycle machine and detect malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Run production lots, communicate with co-workers regarding productions runs, and maintain a safe, organized and clean work environment.
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management or engineers.
  • Operate CNC Mills and/or Lathes with knowledge of multiple pallets and work coordinated systems as they apply to existing CNC machines.
  • Perform inspection of machined products and document results.
  • Analyze processes and provide solutions to problems while working on reducing setup and cycle times.
  • Complete and maintain paperwork for parts.
  • Assist in other work areas as needed.

Required 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED

  • Ability to read blueprints and build to specifications
  • Knowledge of CNC controllers and tools
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Stoop by bending body downward and forward requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles
  • Kneel by bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s)
  • Crouch by bending  body downward and forward by bending legs and spine
  • Perceive attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touch
  • Hear by perceiving the nature of sounds by ear
  • Adjust vision to bring objects into sharp focus
  • Identify and distinguish colors
