Description:

SPS Commerce is a leading provider of cloud-based supply chain management solutions, serving a global network of retail trading partners. We foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment where innovation and continuous improvement are highly valued. Join SPS Commerce and be part of a dynamic team that's transforming the global retail supply chain!

Position Summary:

We're seeking a Technical Product Owner (TPO) to serve as a leader driving cohesive prioritization and execution across a portfolio within the Enterprise Systems team, supporting corporate support functions and applications across CRM, ERP, HCM and Payroll ecosystems, and corresponding underlying data ecosystems (Snowflake, Databricks.) Each Technical Product Owner owns a portfolio, a related set of systems, applications, and business processes, and acts as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, defining and prioritizing initiatives and enhancements across that portfolio that align with business goals while ensuring technical feasibility.

The Technical Product Owner is expected to operate as a judgment-driven connective role: building direct relationships with key stakeholders and business partners, using data to inform prioritization across their portfolio, and helping the organization align technology work, including AI-driven initiatives, with business priorities. TPOs are expected to act as informal leaders across Enterprise Systems, extending their influence beyond their immediate team through the strength of their relationships and judgment.
You will gather requirements from end-users, translate them into clear user stories, and maintain the backlog across your portfolio.

You will work closely with developers, architects, and QA teams to ensure solutions are delivered efficiently, with a focus on optimizing workflows, improving data integrity, and enabling automation, including agentic development, to support core business processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Defining the portfolio vision: Establishing the overall goals and objectives across the systems, applications, and initiatives that make up the portfolio, setting direction and communicating it to stakeholders and the development team.
  • Developing and maintaining the portfolio roadmap in partnership with the Development Manager and Domain Technical Lead to provide consistent, clear, and realistic updates to all stakeholders, giving visibility into both near-term priorities and what's coming next across the portfolio.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders: Gathering feedback and clarifying requirements to align with business objectives.
  • Managing the portfolio intake and roadmap: Prioritizing and refining incoming requests and roadmap items across the systems and applications within the portfolio.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and business partners across Enterprise Systems and the business units they support, and using those relationships to facilitate the prioritization and execution of projects within Enterprise Systems.
  • Serving as a bridge for AI-driven initiatives: Partnering with Enterprise AI Solutions and business stakeholders to identify, align, and promote opportunities for AI and automation within their portfolio, and helping translate business problems into AI-informed solutions.
  • Using AI to gain efficiencies as a TPO: Applying AI tools in day-to-day work, such as drafting requirements, synthesizing stakeholder input, and supporting documentation, to increase personal efficiency and model AI-forward practices for the teams they support.
  • Owning a data element of the role: Developing working fluency with the data and systems relevant to their portfolio segment, and using that data to inform prioritization, roadmap decisions, and stakeholder conversations rather than relying solely on anecdotal input. This includes defining and tracking value or adoption metrics for key initiatives to demonstrate impact to stakeholders.
  • Serving as an informal leader across Enterprise Systems: Providing direction, judgment, and connective tissue across teams and segments beyond formal reporting lines, surfacing risks, resolving ambiguity, and helping the organization act with governance confidence.
  • Escalating unresolved dependencies: Identifying cross-portfolio dependencies and scope overlaps, and escalating for resolution when they can't be reconciled at the segment level.
  • Ensuring documentation quality: Responsible for ensuring that the Functional Design Document (FDD) and functional specifications make sense and meet end users' needs, enabling the developer to define how the system will be built.
  • Authoring technical documentation: Works closely with the development team in authoring the Technical Design Document (TDD).
  • Partnering on team ceremonies: Partnering with the Development Manager and Scrum Master on sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, grooming, and release planning.
  • Validating delivered work: Participating in acceptance testing and validation of completed features to ensure they meet the defined acceptance criteria and deliver the intended value to users.
  • Supporting rollout and adoption: Supporting adoption of delivered initiatives through stakeholder communication, enablement, and structured feedback collection.
  • Participating in release management: Supporting release management efforts led by the Development Manager, and monitoring performance across the portfolio to ensure high-quality features are delivered

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Technical Product Owner.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Strong communication skills that allow you to speak directly to your stakeholders using their language and mental models.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships with business stakeholders and use them to drive prioritization, not just track status.
  • Comfort working with data to support decisions, pulling insight from reporting, dashboards, or systems relevant to the role, even without a formal data-analyst background.
  • Exposure to AI or automation tooling, or experience partnering with data/AI teams to scope and prioritize opportunities.
  • 1+ years of SPS experience with direct exposure to the systems or business processes within the relevant segment may substitute for formal Technical Product Owner experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years' experience in software development.
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Certifications such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe Product Owner / Product Manager (POPM), Agile Certified Product Owner (CAPO), or PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) higher desirable.
