Compensation
Pay Range: $30.00/hr - $36.00/hr
Position Summary
Reporting to the Equipment Manager/Shop Foreman, the Mechanic performs duties and tasks related to the preventative and corrective maintenance of specialized railway construction equipment and other related construction equipment and vehicles. Working hours during the probation period will be straight day shift once the probation period ends the working hours will change based on business needs these positions are not for day shift only.Â
Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of all systems associated with work equipment (mechanical, electrical and hydraulic)Â
- Work from blueprints, service manuals and schematic drawingsÂ
- Conduct inspections and tests, repair or replace parts with limited resources in remote locations outdoors in all types of weather conditionsÂ
- Evaluate parts for reuse, repair or replacementÂ
- Use of cutting torches and welder to perform various fabrication tasks, comfortable using both stick and mig welding applications  Â
- Use various hand and power hand toolsÂ
- Operates equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts to assist in assignmentsÂ
- Diagnose equipment problems and take corrective action in order to minimize the impact on crew productionÂ
- Adapts to new methods, processes, material and equipmentÂ
- Prepare and submit equipment maintenance records, time sheets, etc.Â
- Follows prescribed safety procedures including the use of safety clothing and equipmentÂ
- Ensures cleanliness and organization of shop, maintenance of shop tools and equipment, loading/unloading and storage of equipment, etc.Â
- Working on heavy duty equipment such as Excavators and BackhoesÂ
- Assists other Heavy Duty Mechanics when neededÂ
Required Skills and Qualifications

A minimum of 3-5 years experience in the skilled mechanical repair of construction equipment.Â

Ability to read and understand procedural instructions and manuals, keep accurate records, and meet deadlinesÂ

Ability to work in shop and field environmentsÂ

Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work being performed.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Works both outdoors at construction sites and in the shopÂ
- Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, lifts, bends, and moves objects up to 50 pounds.Â
- Exposed to all weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.Â
- Exposed to loud noise.Â
- Exposed to live track/trains and high voltage.Â
- Ability to work rotating shiftsÂ
- Working with multiples tools Â
- Comfortable sitting for an extended period of time traveling to the job siteÂ
