Position Summary

The Emergency Preparedness Manager / Safety Officer is responsible for coordinating and maintaining emergency preparedness and safety programs for Minneola Healthcare, including the hospital, long term care facility, and rural health clinics. This position helps ensure the organization is prepared to respond to emergencies and disasters while maintaining compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements. The role works closely with leadership and department managers to maintain a safe environment for patients, residents, staff, and visitors.

Chief Operating Officer (COO)


Key Responsibilities

Emergency Preparedness

  • Maintain and update the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) for the organization.
  • Ensure emergency preparedness requirements are met for the hospital, long term care facility, and rural health clinics.
  • Conduct an annual Hazard Vulnerability Assessment (HVA).
  • Coordinate and document emergency preparedness drills, including:
    • Fire drills
    • Evacuation drills
    • Disaster exercises
  • Assist with implementation of the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) during emergencies.
  • Serve as a liaison with community emergency response partners including local emergency management, fire departments, EMS, and public health agencies.
  • Maintain emergency preparedness documentation including training records, drill reports, and emergency plans.


Safety Program

  • Serve as the Safety Officer for the organization.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe environment for patients, residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Conduct routine environmental safety rounds throughout the facility.
  • Identify safety hazards and work with departments to implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with the investigation and documentation of safety incidents.
  • Maintain safety policies and ensure they are updated as needed.


Training and Education

  • Provide staff training on:
    • Emergency preparedness
    • Fire safety
    • Workplace safety procedures
  • Ensure staff receive required safety and emergency preparedness education during orientation and annually.


Compliance and Documentation

  • Maintain documentation required for regulatory compliance and facility surveys.
  • Assist leadership with maintaining compliance with emergency preparedness and safety regulations.
  • Participate in quality improvement and safety meetings as needed.


Experience

Experience in healthcare safety, emergency preparedness, or regulatory compliance is preferred.


Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic understanding of healthcare emergency preparedness and safety programs
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to coordinate activities across multiple departments
  • Strong communication and training skills
  • Ability to work with community emergency response partners


Work Environment

This position supports all areas of Minneola Healthcare including the hospital, long term care facility, and rural health clinics. The position may require participation in emergency response activities outside of normal business hours.
