Position Overview
The Host & Expo position at Lafayette Club is a versatile front-of-house role that supports both guest hospitality and dining service operations. Team members hired into this position will be cross-trained and may be scheduled as a Host on some shifts and as an Expo on others, depending on operational needs, staffing levels, and business demands.
As a Host, you will serve as the first and last point of contact for members and guests, creating a welcoming atmosphere and ensuring an exceptional arrival and departure experience. As an Expo, you will act as the communication link between the kitchen and dining room, ensuring food quality, accuracy, and timely service.
The Host & Expo is a vital part of Lafayette Club's service team and is expected to provide outstanding hospitality, maintain strong communication with team members, and contribute to a seamless dining experience. The ideal candidate is friendly, organized, detail-oriented, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment while delivering exceptional service to our members and guests.
This is a cross-functional position. Team members should be comfortable performing the responsibilities of both Host and Expo and can expect their schedule to include shifts in either role. Flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to adapt to the needs of the club are essential for success in this position. Â This position is compensated with an hourly rate plus gratuity.
Host Responsibilities
- Welcome all members and guests with a friendly, professional attitude and address members by name whenever possible.
- Ensure the host stand is organized, clean, and fully prepared for service.
- Answer phones promptly and professionally.
- Record and manage reservations accurately.
- Familiarize yourself with reservations, member preferences, and special requests, and communicate relevant information to service staff.
- Escort members and guests to their tables and notify servers when guests have been seated.
- Inform guests about club events and answer questions regarding club activities and amenities.
- Communicate reservation changes, late arrivals, and special requests to the kitchen and service teams.
- Thank members and guests upon departure and ensure a positive final impression.
- Handle mobile orders for to-go service.
Expo Responsibilities
- Ensure the smooth flow of orders and efficient delivery of service.
- Coordinate communication between servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff.
- Monitor food preparation and coordinate timing to ensure orders are delivered promptly and accurately.
- Verify completed kitchen orders against guests’ original orders.
- Inspect food quality and presentation before dishes leave the kitchen.
- Handle incoming calls and mobile orders for to-go service.
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of food and beverage menu items, ingredients, and preparation methods.
- Assist waitstaff as needed during service.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with team members.
- Follow restaurant-wide sanitation standards and stocking procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized workstation at all times.
- Perform opening and closing duties as assigned by management.
Education
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of restaurant experience preferred.
- At least one year of host/hostess experience preferred, ideally in a country club, hospitality, or upscale dining environment.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math functions.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Punctual and professional in appearance and conduct.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Schedule Requirements
- Availability to work flexible schedules, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be available to work nights and weekends as required by business needs.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including shifts lasting five or more hours.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to remain on your feet throughout the entire shift.
- Work environment may include moderate noise levels and high-volume service periods.
