This role ensures accurate and efficient specimen collection, labeling, processing, transport, and archiving to support high-quality laboratory testing. The supervisor manages staffing, workflow, training, and service coverage for a large, multi-site team while promoting consistency, safety, and excellent customer service. Through clear communication, supportive leadership, and operational oversight, this position enhances the patient experience and supports timely diagnostic services across all collection sites. Key Responsibilities: Oversee daily operations of lab assistants and phlebotomy teams across inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring accurate specimen collection, labeling, processing, and delivery. Coordinate staffing assignments, schedules, and daily workflow to maintain adequate coverage and efficient service at all supported locations. Provide hands-on technical support, training, and competency oversight for phlebotomy procedures, specimen handling, and documentation practices. Monitor quality indicators, supply levels, equipment needs, and adherence to safety and infection-prevention standards to support reliable operations. Collaborate with nursing units, outpatient clinics, laboratory leadership, and other departments to resolve service concerns and support an effective patient-centered workflow. Maintain accurate operational records, support readiness for regulatory surveys, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. QualificationsLicenses and Certifications Required: National Phlebotomy or Laboratory Assistant Certification ASCP or equivalent preferred Educational Requirements: BA/AS in biological or chemical science preferred High school diploma required Experience Requirements: 3 years of lab related experience performing phlebotomy/clerical functions in a medical setting required Management experience preferred Special Skills or Training Requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate well Solid computer skills Physical Requirements: The Supervisor, Lab Assistants & Phlebotomy frequently stands, walks, and travels between collection areas to support staff and patient needs. The role requires performing venipuncture, handling specimens, and lifting or carrying supply boxes, transport bins, and equipment as needed. Adequate vision, hearing, fine motor skills, and manual dexterity are essential for safe specimen collection, labeling, and interaction with patients and staff. Environmental Requirements: Work is performed in inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and laboratory settings with routine exposure to blood and body fluids, infectious materials, chemicals, and standard medical equipment. The position requires adherence to all safety and infection-prevention protocols, including proper use of PPE. Variable workloads and rapid response needs may occur, requiring flexibility, safe prioritization, and effective communication in busy clinical environments.
