Position Summary

The Salvation Army Minot Corps is “Doing the Most Good” by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, the Corps offers services such as case management, food and clothing assistance, utility and housing support, and connections to community resources.

 

The Youth Ministries Director is responsible for developing and overseeing youth programming for individuals aged 0 to 29, fostering their spiritual, educational, relational, and personal growth. This role includes planning and leading youth activities, increasing participation and engagement, and representing The Salvation Army in the community. The Director also supports worship and Christian education, assists with seasonal events and fundraising, and ensures fiscal responsibility for youth programs. Additionally, the role will require work on Sundays and Wednesday evenings, the building is closed on Fridays.

Essential Functions (Approximate time spent)

  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee youth programming (50%): Plan, coordinate, and manage all youth programming, events, trips, and activities that promote spiritual, educational, recreational, and relational development.
  • Participate in worship and Christian education (15%): Support and lead worship and Christian education programs, including planning services, leading meetings, preaching, teaching, and mentoring others in these roles.
  • Increase participation and engagement (10%): Develop strategies to increase participation and engagement in youth programming, worship services, and volunteer/ministry opportunities.
  • Represent and promote The Salvation Army (10%): Promote The Salvation Army’s mission and youth programming through public speaking, networking with local businesses and schools, attending community events, and participating in Salvation Army youth initiatives.
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility (5%): Manage youth program budgets responsibly, ensuring expenses align with allocated resources.
  • Assist with seasonal events and fundraising (5%): Support the planning and execution of seasonal events and fundraising activities to engage the community and generate support.
  • Participate in Soldiership classes (5%): Engage in Soldiership classes to deepen understanding of Salvation Army doctrine and beliefs, fostering spiritual growth and alignment with organizational values.

 

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience working in youth ministry, program coordination, or related field.
  • Must pass background checks, possess a valid driver’s license, and pass an MVR check.

 

Competencies                                                                                                                                            

  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, Senior Soldier in good standing preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Strong ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Demonstrates honesty, diligence, and strong ethical standards in all responsibilities.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office and other PC-based tools for program management.

 

Working Conditions

  • Requires a mix of sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Professional work environment with potential for remote-friendly arrangements.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, participants, and the community.
  • Work schedule includes evenings and weekends, with participation in worship and church events required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise youth program staff and/or volunteers.

 

Driving/Travel Requirements

Travel throughout the local community using an agency or personal vehicle required. Rare overnight trips.
