Job purpose
Assists Supervisor’s functions as a shift leader by performing the following duties.
Duties and responsibilities
The Security Corporal’s responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. |
- Reviews and routes communications received into the unit.
- Provides direction and training to new officers.
- Reviews reports for completeness and accuracy, and provides suggestions for improvement.
- Notifies superior officers of unusual or emergency situations and takes necessary action until the arrival of superior.
- Provides information to superior officer on the work performance of employees within unit or on work shift.
- Directs and controls traffic.
- Writes detailed incident, investigation, activity, and other reports.
- Ensure the shift is operated in a fluid and successful manner and all calls for assistance are responded to timely.
- Act as decision maker in absence of Sergeant and/or Lieutenant.
- Is consistently at work on time; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments on time.

- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, write reports, and comprehend procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software and internet software.
- Valid Florida driver license.
Direct reports
Supervises up to 14 employees per shift in the Security Department.Â
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.Â
- The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.Â
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.Â
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- You must be legal to work in the United States.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment MVR, Background Check and Drug Screen.
