If you're seeking a human services career that makes a real impact, this role offers purpose, stability, and growth.   Make a Difference Every Day Vocational Visions is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and motivated Janitor/Job Coach to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in supported employment, paid internships, and community-based job placements. This is a hands-on, meaningful role ideal for candidates who want long-term impact, stability, and growth in the human services field.   Position Summary This position is primarily responsible for general custodial and janitorial work and keeping the facility clean. In addition to custodial work, this position will provide instruction and guidance to persons with Intellectual/Disabilities in the area of custodial/janitorial duties. The assisting of instruction, guidance, and implementation of the job responsibilities for the participant is key to person served development.   Essential Job Functions The following duties represent the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. Maintain cleanliness in common areas around the building (breakrooms/kitchens) Attention to detail as to the cleanliness of offices Maintain cleanliness in restrooms & stock all paper products in restrooms Utilize time-management, multitasking abilities, and organizational skills Display excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills Work with minimal supervision Maintain a thorough inventory and ordering new cleaning supplies as needed Wax floors, shampoo rugs and carpets, and clean wood, linoleum, tile and other floors Use equipment, commercial vacuums, floor buffers and carpet cleaners Change air filters and cleaning vents Dust all surfaces and wash windows Collect and take out trash and recycling Complete documentation including recording data for goals, daily log, and communication books to care providers and parents. Advance participants’ decision-making, productivity and participation in a range of skill building activities. Apply strategies and techniques to foster independence, self-reliance and social skills. Implement individual support plans for participants Establish a secure, positive environment that nurtures participants' needs, self-expression and goals. Provide information for the updating of participant case notes Deliver individualized training and care for participants in compliance with instructions and other specific guidelines. Maintain knowledge participants’ care and supervision requirements. Maintain documentation in compliance with company procedures (cleaning logs) Adhere to all Vocational Visions Policies, Code of Conduct and Procedures Assist in giving first aid and CPR as necessary Other duties as assigned QualificationsMinimum Qualifications Authorization to work in the United States. Proficiency in English, including speaking, reading, and writing. Valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record, as required for the position. Ability to pass required pre-employment screenings, which may include a criminal background check, physical examination, drug screening, and TB test, consistent with applicable law. Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification. May be required to operate a company vehicle in support of organizational operations.   Required Working Knowledge Knowledge of different cleaning products and tools Characteristics and knowledge of adults with Developmental/Intellectual disabilities Desire to work with adults with Developmental/Intellectual disabilities Ability to assume responsibility and supervise participants Ability to cooperate and work in a team environment Unique needs of each participant   Preferred Experience 1-2 years’ experience with persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities Completion of certified first aid/CPR training and CPI training Janitorial experience including using cleaning supplies/equipment to clean and maintain floors, offices, and restrooms preferred   Physical Requirements and Working Conditions The physical demands and working conditions described below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this job. Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled office environment. Occasional exposure to outdoor elements, including heat and cold. May be exposed to loud noises and odors associated with program environments. Requires manual dexterity to operate cleaning equipment and perform tasks such as moving tables and chairs. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Ability to reach, kneel, squat, bend, lift, and twist Ability to safely lift, move, push, and pull up over 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.   On rare occasions, employees may be subjected to maladaptive behaviors exhibited by persons served, including self-injurious behaviors, verbal aggression, physical aggression, etc. Other incidents may also occur. The employee in this position needs to understand that this is part of the job, and while staff works to prevent this from happening, there may be instances when it cannot be avoided.
