Job DetailsJob Location: Aiello Buskey Medical Center - Prichard, AL 36610 JOB SUMMARY: To meet Joint Commission, CLIA, and quality treatment requirements, identify training needs and ensure that each individual performing laboratory tests receives regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed; includes arranging auxiliary nursing staff training annually and as new staff are hired.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1.            Conducts annual, semi-annual, and as-needed competency evaluations for all laboratory testing personnel of any department. 2.            Coordinate with the Laboratory supervisor to ensure an accurate written list of responsibilities of each individual in the laboratory that specifies the level of activity each is authorized to perform; whether supervision is required for specimen processing, test performance, or results reporting; and whether director review is required before reporting patient test results. 3.            Assist with laboratory coverage when personnel are short or out within the Franklin network. 4.            Provide on-site training where feasible and acceptable. 5.            Ensure these competent levels of staffing are maintained throughout the testing process. 6.            Ensure inventory and supplies are valid for all centers and assist with new testing implementation. 7.            Follow-up training needs upon any PI, QA, or Operations finding. 8.            Analyze and prepare specimens for examination 9.            Perform phlebotomy on children, adults, and older populations. 10.          Perform and document quality controls/quality assurance/maintenance 11.          Performs routine lab procedures, such as but not limited to HbA1c, Urine, Strep A, Glucose, Urine Dip, Urine HCG, PT/INR, etc. 12.          Check invoices for insurance and diagnosis accuracy. 13.          Remit medically necessary diagnosis codes from medical records review. 14.          Meet the functional duties of a Lab Technician.   ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  Performs advanced and higher complexity testing as certification allows. Analyze and prepare specimens for examination Analyze and evaluate test results.  Relay these results to the Lab Director and Physicians. Assists in the development and implementation of lab procedures. Maintains proper records. Processes Reference Labs’ specimen. Distributes results—“Alert Values”. Disinfects and organizes the lab area. Other lab supportive duties as delegated.   CUSTOMER SATISFACTION REQUIREMENTS:  Must provide the very best customer satisfaction to patients, volunteers, visitors, and co-workers at all times in a professional and courteous manner.  Provide assistance in resolving customers’ problems. Effectively involves customers in decisions that affect them.  Follow through in a timely manner of commitments made to customers.  Taking ownership of your attitude toward Service Excellence   PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:  Performance will be evaluated by the Lab Director or designee annually, wherein a satisfactory overall rating is considered a minimum acceptable level of performance. PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION (PHI) ACCESS – RESTRICTED - This position is classified under ANCILLARY PROVIDER and therefore granted RESTRICTED access for the purpose of providing patient care.  Restricted access to be defined according to the workforce members’ specific job duties or, if for non-treatment purposes, according to the purpose for which the use is intended.   Use and disclosure must be in accordance with applicable privacy policies and procedures.   HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:    The health and safety requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must adhere to safety regulations, personnel policies and procedures. Safety and Hazard Communication training update is required annually. Knowledgeable of OSHA and CLIA requirements to assure compliance. Maintain yearly health maintenance records by obtaining TB skin testing and completion of the hepatitis series.   PRIVACY RULE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS:   Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA Privacy Rule) policies and procedures. Must complete Privacy Rule compliance training annually or as revisions are made to the policies and procedures. Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by learning to protect FPHC patients’ medical privacy. Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by appropriately maintaining our patient information in compliance with national standards. Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by providing appropriate security of FPHC patient records.   QualificationsQUALIFICATION: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited college/university with a degree in Medical Technology or related subject with a minimum of one year of laboratory work experience; or a combination of training, education, and work experience relative to the position.   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge of work performed in the laboratory.  Possess the ability to set priorities well. Possess the ability to operate lab equipment efficiently.  Possess the ability to carry out testing procedures accurately with attention to detail.  Possess the ability to prioritize tasks and workloads.    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURE, AND REGISTRATIONS: MLT or MT (ASCP OR AMT Certification)   PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:  Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.  Must be able to express ideas clearly and concisely; and exercise balanced judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions. Must be able to communicate, written and orally, information to clients and staff.
