Responsibilities

Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and hospital policies and procedures, including those pertaining to confidentiality; demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards; provides direct patient care according to unit specific competencies; performs therapeutic procedures or assists with diagnostic procedures to include catheterization, NG insertion/lavage, dressing changes, blood glucose monitoring, trach care, and airway management; administers medications including controlled substances by all routes except IV push; responds appropriately to emergency patient situations; initiates IV therapy and NG insertion after completion of approved IV Therapy and NG insertion course; manages patients requiring mechanical ventilation; assists with any orthopedic appliances; performs skilled procedures and can state the purpose, rationale, precautions and observations related to that procedure; assists with patient/family education by reviewing and enforcing established education plan; utilizes a PC or terminal to access the Hospital Information System; assists with IV therapy within scope of practice to include, IV site rotation per policy, labels IV site and tubing per policy, and assists with medications and treatments as needed; assists with direct patient care as needed; maintains accurate and complete medical records by utilizing the correct documentation tools and procedures, assisting with the completion of MAK/MAR, and completing the flow chart including signature; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and members of the healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; participates on committees as assigned; participates in performance improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of PDSA process as assigned; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime and call as required; related duties as required.

 

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the State of Alabama. Licensure with the State of Alabama or Multistate License as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
