Summary: The successful candidate will maintain all campus facilities and equipment including, but not limited to; plumbing, HVAC, electrical, fleet maintenance, and swimming pool as needed, incorporating preventive maintenance in the regular work schedule. Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in managing contracted work. Assist with general maintenance.  Prioritize work and coordinate with maintenance team and facilities faculty and staff.

Classification: Full-time, 12-month, non-exempt, hourly. 

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:  

  • High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in facilities maintenance.  
  • General knowledge of electrical and plumbing equipment, and maintenance procedures.  
  • Knowledge of building and equipment codes. 
  • HVAC diploma/certificate considered a plus.  
  • Knowledge of the cleaning supplies and techniques necessary to maintain the facilities. 
  • Experience with preventive maintenance and preventive maintenance scheduling. 
  • Experience working with adolescents.  
  • Position is on-site, day shift but must be able to work evenings, nights, and weekends as required and rotate on-call schedule.  
  • The Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 require criminal history background checks and establish suitability criteria for individuals working in positions that involve children, including public or residential school settings like ASMS (Alabama School of Math and Science).

 

Required Skills 

  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, web-based programs, and email as a primary mode of communication/documentation. 
  • Enforces and complies with policies and procedures of the ASMS Board of Directors

  • Ability to work as a member of a team. 
  • Ability to communicate with the administration, faculty, staff, students and public in a professional and effective manner. 
  • Ability to read and interpret diagrams, rules, regulations and guidelines and their applications. 
  • Ability to follow instructions, both written and oral. 

 

Duties include but are not limited to: 


Infrastructure and Facilities Maintenance 

  • Prioritizes facilities and maintenance work, including managing the ticketing system.  
  • Conducts weekly rounds throughout the facilities to monitor and address maintenance, safety, and security concerns. 
  • Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of HVAC units and components and make necessary adjustments or repairs. 
  • Repair or replace defective parts in units and equipment and their controls. 
  • Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of the swimming pool, pool components and controls and make necessary adjustments or repairs. 
  • Repair or replace the pool, pool equipment and pool controls, as necessary.  
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools utilized in the trade and maintain equipment in effective and safe working condition. 
  • Maintain parts and tool inventory. 
  • Coordinates major repairs with the Maintenance Supervisor. 
  • Ensures supply and control of necessary equipment, tools, and parts. 
  • Knowledge of the safety regulations and their applications to all maintenance equipment. 

 

Administrative  

  • Attend meetings, including department meetings, staff meetings, committee meetings, and one-on-one meetings. 

 

Continuous Improvement  

  • Serves on ASMS committees as assigned. 
  • Supports the school’s Mission, Vision, and Values. 
  • Tracks data for reporting purposes. 

 

Miscellaneous 

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the ASMS President/Director.
